Yeah, thats WAY too hot. 80-85 is good for incubation of the jars, but for fruiting them you want 73-77.

The fruits might grow at 85 but I don't think they'll pin. 90+ and you're guilty of fungi abuse.

Yeah, isn't it annoying when no one respond to your topics?

Buffalo Trance is right. Temps over 85 can be very bad for jars.

Also, direct light is not good for jars either. If you use a light to heat it, then cover the jars with foil.

Good luck!

I just threw out my doomed shrooms, and colonized 11 new jars! I hope they work!

Temp is only 60 degrees, and I'm not controlling the humidity at all. Is that bad?

On my lunch break and just doing a little surfing.. Shroomerey is definately one of my favorite sites. (I DO have a regular job, btw.) This post was too interesting to resist.

Locking your shroom garden in a trunk? I presume this is to hide it from people (parent? roomies?). Good idea with the controlled environment and all, but what looks REAL suspicious is an electric cord going into it. So what's up with the black light? The only time they need light is during pinning (and maybe later, I don't know) to tell them which way is up.

But maybe you're on to something ... go ahead and put a lava lamp and a a Jimi Hendrix neon poster in there and play Grateful Dead tracks. You'll make some real psychedelic hippy shrooms!

Seriously though, your careful thought to preparation shows intelligence and if you are equally careful against contamination, you should be successful.

They colonize in darkness, but need gas exchange (the tin foil acts as a filter against foreign microbes). The hole in the lid is to minimize exposure during inoculation. The top verm layer in the jar will trap most of them that get past the hole or tinfoil. If the temp is too hot it will dry out the jars and I don't think the colonization likes it that hot anyways. Everybody says 80 degrees.

Getting to the fully colonized jars is the hardest part (for me). After that, they'll grow in your aquarium if you keep the temp steady, the humidity high (without getting water on the cakes) and circulate the air a couple times a day. Maybe then you can put a low wattage, very low heat, florescent light in there with them (it'll get hot with the lid of your trunk closed).

Read these docs below to shock you into being super clean (it's very important): http://www.shroomery.org/findorgrowthem.asp?View=docs&doc=64 http://www.shroomery.org/findorgrowthem.asp?View=docs&doc=65

Just thought id point out...im pretty sure they wont react to the blacklight, it will probably be just like if they were in the dark....wrong frequency...
