selective breeding
    #7078699 -

is it a good idea to take select specimen and clone them because of certain characteristics. basically i want a strain with a few characteristics: big fruit, fast colonization, and a lot of fruit. if i put some spores of a big mushroom with the spores of one that had a lot of little mushrooms, will i get a strain with a lot of medium mushrooms? i guess i'm getting a bit further into genetics than i care to. anyone know where i can find out more about this?

By saying “I have nothing to hide,” you are saying that it’s OK for the government to infringe on the rights of potentially millions of your fellow Americans, possibly ruining their lives in the process. To me, the “I have nothing to hide” argument basically equates to “I don’t care what happens, so long as it doesn’t happen to me”

No, you will either get patches of each or one will overtake the other. The only way to get what your saying, is by cloning one with all those characteristics.

zer0mancer :
" basically i want... big fruit, fast colonization, and a lot of fruit"

along with a cube the potency of a ps.cyanescens.
kind of like the holy grail of the "active" mush growing fraternity.;)

if you grow a mushroom you particularly want to reproduce, you can clone it using this method->

bear in mind that size etc, can be as much to do with the environment that you provide ,as the genetics.
as a starting point ,and for ease of using the method above,i'd go for a heavy solid feeling stipe, (stem) as your clone material.

size of cap has little bearing on the genetics of the spore they
contain.
the smallest cap could yield spore with the genetics for a mushroom of which, "hippiechick" would be proud.
conversely the largest could produce a bunch of runts.

but then, isn't that what makes growing mushrooms so fascinating.
good luck.

penis envy could be for you. Most of mine weigh avg of 2.5 grams however they are very potent and in a 12 qt bin of coir, coffee, and gypsum I get 3-4 ounces. In manure you could do even better all around.
