If you actually sit back and take a calm, rational look at the debate and the issues and the larger picture you will see that medical marijuana is actually the key first step towards general decriminalization of the cannabis plant. Once you make drugs in general a health issue and not a criminal issue the entire debate changes.

And the best way to do that is to phrase the discussion in terms of a language everyone can speak. There are two such languages.

Pain, and money.

The first step is to legalize marijuana as a medicine to show that it has beneficial uses. Once it is legalized on the medical level, then we are in a good position to say, look some people use this recreationally, and rather than spending all this MONEY on the drug war ($4billion/year and counting) why don't we legalize and tax this plant instead?

dude, our entire govt has their heads up eachothers asses.. i dont see how anyone could possibly stand for MJ being a schedule I drug, but alcohol being completely legal to adults over 21. when alcohol is a far more harmful and impearing substance.. well i know how, multibillion dollar industries.. but its just rediculous.

how stupid and blind do people have to see that the real gateway drug isnt marijuana, its caffiene, tabacco, and alcohol.

I know that's the only way it'll work to get it on its way to becoming legally available for us ordinary Joes...

but it just pisses me off that we need to put that argument up as if it is genuinly a better reason.

It is ridiculous and if you really want to know why this situation exists I really urge you to look into it...

If you look back to the time when marijuana was deemed illegal (circa 1937-1942) you will find evidence that this was not largely because of any medical reason. Rather, there were two industries at work - the cotton industry, which was trying to dominate the hemp industry, and the tobacco industry which wanted a monopoly on smoking stuffs. Lobbyists for these two industries were instrumental in getting marijuana demonized.

done lots of research, im mainly on the side of hemp. id love to have a hemp plantation to use help and biomass fuel and for 10,000's of other products including paper and textile uses.

hemp ban is simply retarded. literally.

The hemp ban makes no fucking sense! Seriously man it makes me wanna bang my head against a goddamn table. The hemp plant, every inch of it can be used as I'm sure you know...AND hempseed oil as a food product is healthier for the human body than soybean oil. But of course soybean magnates aren't interested in that...

Actually NORML in NY State is depressingly defunct. I go to meetings and stuff organized by droptherock.org which is a movement against the NYState Rockefeller Drug Laws and some Drug Policy Alliance events. Just go to norml.org though and check out your state's chapter, most states have shit going on.  It's pretty cool getting out and meeting people through activist stuff like that...I was really nervous about it (I def. suffer from social anxiety sometimes) but I was so glad when I finally did. :thumbup:

I think marijuana should be legal period. But since its not i do think those who need it for medical reasons should have it. Nobody should have to suffer just because its an illegal drug. If i needed medical marijuana and i couldnt get it you'd be damn sure ill be buying it illegally.

Plus ciggaretes kill more people than marijuana and are legal, wtf is that shit.
