Call me sappy, but I have been listening to a lot of Five for Fighting lately. I just discovered them, and I'm a big fan of their piano-driven, Elton-esque style.

To all the dads for Father's Day, here's one of my faves...

Julian Cope - Jehovahkill
Phish - Picture of Nectar
Bob Dylan - Blood on the Tracks
Shpongle - all three albums
Tom Waits - Rain Dogs
Super Furry Animals - Rings Around the World
Flaming Lips - Yoshimi
Any Brian Jonestown Massacre album, but "...and this is our music" is great place to start.

Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank.

It's a must, it really is. Very generous album. The deeper you look into it, the more you'll get out of it. But still is easy to listen to without giving it your full attention.
I really cannot quit with this album. I just posted something about it in the Music, Art, Literature forum.. go there if you like and see if you're interested. Honestly, I can't encourage anything over that right now, but some more good recent albums...

for the indie-ish stuff
Cursive - Happy Hollow
Minus The Bear - Menos El Oso
(both great albums I've devoted alot of time and heart to)

experimental/post-rock, more atmospheric stuff (since you mentioned Air)
Explosions In The Sky - All Of A Sudden I Miss Everyone
Do Make Say Think - You, You're History In The Rust
The Album Leaf - In A Safe Place
Sigur Ròs - Ágætis Byrjun

those last two are pretty old, but albums I consider to be definite must-hears.

I'll just stop there, because I could seriously name off 500 albums right now that I consider to be ingenious. I like most everything. These are just albums that have been wearing out my stereo lately.

Well, looks like you like Pink Floyd, so you would probably enjoy many of the other prog rock bands from the 60's/70's. Try out King Crimson's album Lark's Tongues In Aspic or In The Court Of The Crimson King.
