Don't go to a technical or trade school

Seriously, it's a complete and utter ripoff. When I took the tour the guy was like, "You'll get out of here and be making at least $15 an hour at a good job". BULLSHIT. I graduated with a 3.85 GPA and good attendance and I got a job that paid $10-an-hour and it sucked so hard that I quit after two weeks. Now I fill my days with riding my bike, doing pushups, tanning (don't laugh assholes), getting loaded, and posting on the Shroomery. I ain't got no fucking $15-an-hour job.

I feel really bad for the kids who went there. For me it doesn't matter but for them they got deeply into debt and they need for their degree to get them a decent job. It didn't.

I spent $25,000 to go to that school for 16 months and I barely learned anything. Most of the time we goofed off. I read the paper, played with my cell-phone, slept, and came to school drunk. We barely did anything. It was easier than high school. The owner and the higher-ups all drove Mercedes yet they paid the teachers shit and the building was falling apart. The school that I went to was a flat-out scam.

My buddy can't go.  :sad:  I don't know anybody who can get off work and come up with several hundred dollars to do it (everybody I know is poor).

Also, Gillette can't give me a ride because her car is full.  So, I would be going by myself.  It would be super-lonely and I would look totally pathetic.

Perhaps that had something to do with not getting a good job afterward?

One of my good buddies got out of a trade school (electrician) 3 years ago. He is now a site manager for his company making 80k a year. Guess you get out of something what you put in.

I went for "Maintenance and Electricity Construction". I was the class valedictorian. Pfft...that's not saying much. There were people in my class who were borderline retarded.

Yeah...electrician. We did residential (which you'll make $7 an hour at), commercial (which you'll make $9 an hour at), and industrial (which you make good money at but they only seem to hire union-trained people).

You mentioned possibly moving to NYC.  If you work there for 5 years, you can get in the union and those guys make bank.  :moneyeyes:  Six figures.  Maybe it's time to set up a true plan of attack, bro.

If I were you Id goto the closest local and try to get in. Electricians around here take home 30+ an hour, thats after all their benefits have been paid for, total package is like 50 an hour for a union electrician. AND they dont do shit. The hardest part of their job is running conduit which amounts to nothing more then bending pipes and screwing it to the walls the carpenters put up.


If your young and have some experience you have a decent shot at getting in.

The local electrician's union has a five year training program before you become a journeyman. You have to know somebody (have a relative who's in, etc..) to get in. If I somehow managed to get in I would be able to jump to the second or third year because of my degree. But, I would still need to sit in school for another 3-4 years. I don't want to do that.

Also, I really don't want to be an electrician. You get all dirty and rip up your hands. I'm much too prissy and dainty for stuff like that.

yeah for people not going to college, trade unions are the best option saved my dads ass, hes making 75000 a year as a sheet metal worker in cali

I went to a community college for baking and cooking and tested out of the class(made a 125 on the pre-test).
