In order to pay for rent, utilities, food, car insurance, etc... you need to make so much more money than low-paying jobs pay.

How the hell do people do it?  I'm sincerely interested.

I made very little money my entire life.  So I went back to school and qualified for $16,000 worth of grants and interest free or very low interest loans (a year)  because I was so "poor".  $10,000 of that is free money in grants and work-study.  I'd rather have school loan debt than credit card debt.

I also got a job at the school that works around my class schedule so I'm still able to work close to full time.  Damn lucky.

And I don't have a girlfriend, which saves probably hundreds of dollars a month.

...isn't worth it to some people.
thats why I said, You gotta be smart. but it CAN be done!(trust me)
what I'm saying is if your smart, you can pretty much ELIMINATE any "risk" of prison.
and hey! prison anit so bad...(I mean it sucks to have some fat cop's finger in your asshole twice a week looking for drugs, and eating food that isn't fit for a DOG...but once you get past that...? hmmm?
actually, your right. Maybe it anit wurf it?
lol.

Actually, I don't have an extremely high paying job, but it's enough to cover what I need to do. My brother lives with me and he has a pretty decent paying job. He helps pay the bills. My bf also lives wiith me and helps pay the bills as well. So it's easy for me to get by.

My suggestion would be to get roomates, if you can deal with them. You can split the bills and save money.

that's awesome Oracle. I was gonna post, but you pretty much summed what i was going to say.
being poor really gives you a perspective on society and an appreciation for little things which many people dont seem to have.

People who are poor just dont pay for car insurance and sweat bullets when a cop drives behind them. they also dont have ANY medical insurance. So, it's livin on the edge...if something goes all wrong, youre fucked!
I've never made over 10 dollars an hour. ever. but then again, i have one year left of school. We'll see after this. My household consists of my two brothers, myself, and my mom who sustains us all working as a receptionist at a hospital for like 12-14/hr. Child support comes if we're lucky. We just got used to it. Food is first-come first-serve. All of my friends know me as a super-crazy bottom-less pit food eater because i eat like a camel drinks. Even if im not hungry, i know that ill be starvinig later. When my mom tried to move to arizona by her self and us we were fucking eating spices one night.

but if you do adapt your lifestyle to be able to sustain and even save when poor (eating bread, for instance), you realize how much more resourceful and capable you are than other people around you.

I'm not trying to be a dick, but how can you comment when you've never lived on your own money? It seems from the description that mommy is doing all the work?

Most of my jobs have been 23/h or more, but I've had a couple that were 9-10/h jobs and it never gave me any positive outlook on anything.

It made me feel broke all the time, stressing about money and thinking about it everyday. It made me hungry when I couldn't afford to eat. It made me unhealthy when I couldn't afford to eat right. Being broke made me not be able to do the things all my friends who WERE making money were doing, thus, making me lonely/depressed.

Unfortunetely money makes the world go round. I hate the idea of money it's a ridiculous concept in the first place.

But the reality is that money is important. And having more than less sure makes life easier.

I'm living on 1400 a month and it's been a long time since I've made so little.

I'll admit, the only thing making little money does is appreciate it more when you start making more.

In a perfect world money would be obsolete.

Everyone would live equally, everyone helping support each other.

Why the need for this paper currency?

So the rich can get richer and the poor getting poorer?

Of course this idea is equally ridiculous, but more than possible.

the only sacrifice for this to happen? Throwing selfishness and greed out the window.

i steal things.

i haven't paid for shaving blades, body wash, electric tooth brushes, tooth paste, and other personal hygiene supplies for the last two years.

i also made around $3000 in profit last year from stealing items and selling them on the internet.  i make money selling the shrooms i grow to.

i only work part-time at a union job.

What about motivation?

Selfishness is a part of life - deal with it. What is mine is mine. People will always feel that way. And then they will say, well, I would give up what is mine for the proper price. Thus, money.

People who are low, can rise. Those who are high, can sink.

And most importantly, no one is "perfect".

I deal with it just fine, I'm just as selfish as the average north american

I was speaking hypothetically.  That's what it would take.

To buddy who said motivation

...i don't think you seem to understand the huge scale of change that I'm hypothetically suggesting.

It would work somewhat like a secluded tribe in the amazon, just on a bigger scale and with technology.

Materialism = :thumbdown:

This isn't the world we live in though and change such as this will never happen...people are either A. sheep or B. selfish or C. both

Money makes the world go around and I'm gonna do my best to play the game and make as much as I can while being happy...which is equally as ridiculous
