I think it is all relative. I don't think I've ever met somebody who thinks they have plenty of money and see no need for any more. everybody is always wanting for more. The only thing that changes is the lifestyle facilitated by one's means and how each individual reacts to it. What one person thinks is enough money to live like a king another sees as poverty

But the first thing I think most do when they run out of money is they stop paying for frivolous shit like drugs, taxes and car insurance.

i think we would all be happy if we could work a little less. 11 hour days make life seem like a long wait for death. it kills your spirit.

if we could be finacially secure on an 8 hour day, wed be happy

This co-worker of mine makes the same money I do -- $10 an hour -- but requires food stamps to feed his wife and kid, as well as afford his wife's seizure medication.

sad  :frown:  seizures suck. thankfully my girlfriend is on a pretty good medical insurance plan and gets that provided for her. she takes like 6 different combinations of that nasty medication.

I took a break from the service industry and worked in this italian deli for a year. Let me tell you, I didn't make shit for money, but the satisfaction and stress free workplace were worth their weight in gold. Low pay jobs for the most part, are shit, but youu can find some good low stress jobs, if you are willing to sacrifice some of the richer life.

Well having been poor for most of my life, i dont count the present, because i now have help, it is very difficult. you dont have many luxuries, like a Tv in every room, a cell phone, 4 pairs of shoes, etc. You dont eat out, or drink for that matter. usually you are not covered medically, so you buy your medicine OTC and try not to get sick. You dont go on vacation, and you dont have large x-mas parties or spending spreees. You eat very meagerly, and leftovers are just what you're having tomorrow. You are on govt assistance, so you cant save money in the bank, or buy a car with out them taking your $120 a month for food away.

Its very fustrating to be poor. i consider myself working poor now. I make $12/hr, no medical/dental. I couldnt live by myself, so i have to live with family . I have $500 in the bank, because after bills/food/transportation/expenses, I have less than $80 bucks to play with per pay period. We dont travel or buy stuff. We just cant.

I have left over things from when I was making $18./hr - like this computer and my temperpedic bed - but things are very tough now. And i am grateful for all I have. i dont go hungry, and i have a fan and ac (which we can only run when it is over 90 degrees) and a computer and a Playstation. And more importanlty the love of a good man and my mom/friends/family. I get pleasure from my garden , writing and being alive. I get mad when i see ppl wasting resources, and wish they had to live like me for a month or two, to make them less wasteful.
i have a college degree, never been arrested, have no kids, and have always strived to be a contributing member of society. So.....
OoD

Any way they can. Some people steal, some people borrow money from their family and/or friends, some people get credit cards and rack up huge debts, some people just learn to do without and try to make the best of it. For years I was trying to live off a minimum wage salary before I got my degree, and most of my meals consisted of free food from the pizza restaurant I worked at and peanut butter sandwiches, because loaves of bread are cheap and a jar of peanut butter can last a long time if you don't glob it on. I hated ramen, fuck that shit. I certainly wasn't eating healthy, because I really couldn't afford to. Even though I was eating all this crap food, I was still stupidly skinny, just because there wasn't much of the crap food to go around.

So basically when you're poor, you do what you have to to survive. Technically I'm still living paycheck to paycheck, but the paychecks are a little bigger so now I can at least afford some real variety in my diet.

EVERYBODY KNOWS THAT!...
YOu poor? you fuckin come on here, learn how to get some cakes fruitin,
you get a network or reliable drug dealers...(if you don't have one already)and then uh...well, Where Im from, Some of that silly psilo, sells for $60.00 an 1/8th.
okay so it don't take a genious to see that... uh...if you grew a POUND DRY, thats 480 an ounce. so $7,680 is usually enough to at least buy Groceries, (and more grow bags) but you gotta be careful! thats the only thing.
if your smart,(that's why I can't do it) but if your smart.
you can make..."Enough to live on" just growing shrooms.

that's awesome Oracle. I was gonna post, but you pretty much summed what i was going to say.
being poor really gives you a perspective on society and an appreciation for little things which many people dont seem to have.

People who are poor just dont pay for car insurance and sweat bullets when a cop drives behind them. they also dont have ANY medical insurance. So, it's livin on the edge...if something goes all wrong, youre fucked!
I've never made over 10 dollars an hour. ever. but then again, i have one year left of school. We'll see after this. My household consists of my two brothers, myself, and my mom who sustains us all working as a receptionist at a hospital for like 12-14/hr. Child support comes if we're lucky. We just got used to it. Food is first-come first-serve. All of my friends know me as a super-crazy bottom-less pit food eater because i eat like a camel drinks. Even if im not hungry, i know that ill be starvinig later. When my mom tried to move to arizona by her self and us we were fucking eating spices one night.

but if you do adapt your lifestyle to be able to sustain and even save when poor (eating bread, for instance), you realize how much more resourceful and capable you are than other people around you.

Learn to dumpster dive.

Its absolutely ridiculous how much completely edible (and often tasty and nutritious) food is totally wasted.

And of course dumpster diving isn't the only way to recover food that would otherwise be wasted but its direct and practical.

well I've been poor ever since I was about 7 and my parents got divorced, my mom was raising 3 kids by herself while working a full time job and going to school for her nursing degree. We got by on little to nothing, and food stamps.

Current day.. (25 now) rent and utilities is about 450 a month, i usually make ~$600. which leaves very little leftover for anything else. Food and cigarettes takes most of that. I'll buy a pouch for $5 and roll my own tobacco, a pouch lasts about 2 weeks. Food... I usually eat one meal a day, late at night. Usually something like pasta since it's cheap and filling. Every once in a while I can afford to buy real groceries and I'll just gorge the fuck out. Also... never, ever, ever... turn down free food. My entire wardrobe consists of two pairs of pants, a pair of shorts, a couple t shirts and 2 hoodies, get a new piece of clothing about once a year.

Sold my car years ago, no insurance, no car payments, no gas. I walk or ride the bus to where I need to go, which sucks. It's hard getting around without a car.

No bank account, no savings, no medical/dental insurance, no medicine. I try to eat healthy whenever possible but usually it's just a matter of filling the stomach with whatever. Haven't seen a doctor in many years and thousands of dollars in debt from having wisdom teeth pulled and borrowing money from people to stay afloat. I don't really ever get sick for some reason, so that's good.

Only thing I hate about being poor is the lack of security, and the constant malnutrition. I could care less about being rich but it sure would be nice to be able to live comfortably for a change. Unfortunately, college is out of the question and well beyond my means financially. But the name of the game is survival and after 15+ years I think I'm getting to be pretty good at it.
