1. on pinning, is it better to wait and let your cakes pin in the jars or just put them in the terrarium after 100% colonization? 2. how do u get your jars to pin? 3. do you still need to mist while using perlite?
P.s. I did a little experiment with a 50% colonized cake.. I birthed it into the perlite terrarium yesterday.. Will a 50% colonized cake still fruit?

1. They say to wait about 7 days after 100% colonization before you put the cakes in your terrarium, so that the middle of the cakes is colonized too. 2. you get get jars to pin by exposing them to light. light tells the mycelium its time to grow! 3. with perlite you don't have to mist.. maybe if it gets too dry. you do need to fan a few times a day though. or get an air pump...
As far as I know that 50% colonized cake will fruit, just wait and see.. Someone more experienced can answer, just giving the basic answers..

your 50% colonized cake has a high possiblity of getting contaimed on the part not colonized that is why you should wait till 100% done. if you are putting your cake right on the perlite it may grow fatasses, meaning it is getting more than enough water, so if that happens put it on a piece of plastic or something. usually with perlite you dont need anything else for humidity. for myself, i live in the desert so i must suppliment with a bubbler. good luck.

only 2 sides out of 4 were inoculated (didnt make the other two big enough for the syringe) and the other 2 uninoculated sides crumbled away when i birthed it. So im let with a lopsided cake. Should i put directly on the perlite?
Thanks for the responses guys, helps a newbie out alot. im going to put my 100% colonized cake in indirect sunlight today..

If you put the cake directly on the perlite you could water log your cake. I've read to put your cake(s) on some tinfoil on top of the perlite...

i also use the perlite method. if theres enuff water that u cant see it dont worry about seperating them. but if u do see water, either get some water out or seperate the cake from the perlite. there should be just enough perlite that all the water is absorbed.
as for the 50% coloinized cake, get rid of it!! it will contam and u risk contaming the rest of the batch in the terran. i dont remember who said it, but leaving the cakes for a few days after you think its 100% colonized is a good idea.

well at the moment its the only cake in the terrarium.. if it is still in there when the other jars are ready to be birthed, i will remove it, and sterilize the terrarium..
