First timer questions

Hi,

I have a couple of things about my set-up I would like to run by people here and get their opinion on:-

1) I want to use Millet as the substrate. I have both millet bgarin and millet flakes. I don't know how well millet binds when you wet it but I have treid a combination of the two types and this seems to bind very well. will this be OK. Would it help if I add some vermiculite to the millet, and can you suggest rougly in what proportions I need to add the Millet and water, and the vermiculite if needed?.

2)I probably won't case these cakes seeing it is my first time and will probably place them in a container with a layer of perlite at the base. Is it possible to case cakes by breaking them up? if so what else would you need. Peat moss?.

Ant additional tips to maximise yields would be appriciated.

If this is your first time then for gods sake use the PF Tek or you'll fail miserably. Save millet for a few montsh down the road or you're destined for failure. Besides, birdseeds are for casing

search for Dethhead's birdseed tek. millet is really cool i would suggest trying it out. you might want to use a little less water than he recommends.

Youll need a pressure cooker to use millet or any whole grain. Sorry to say this if you have one.
