Some Newbie Questions
    #701372 -

Ok. I've been reading this board for some time now. (Had to create a new account because I forgot my password and deleted the e-mail addy it was sent to) Anyways. I've only attempted growing once. My cat destroyed my terrarium as soon as my casings started to pin. I'm attempting it again but this time I'd like to know a little more.

1. Last time when I did the casing I cut my cake with a knife. Is this safe? It seemed to be working fine last time.I hear of people crumbling it but is it safe to crumble it with your bare hands? Should I put it in a plastic baggy and then crumble it?

2. I'm going to use perlite for humidity. I'm not going to have enough time to fan 2-3 times a day. I've heard people mention using an air pump. Any specific kind I should look for? How would I set this up in my terrarium?

3. Is misting required for a terrarium using perlite humidity? How often a day should it be misted? I've read about the bleach tech but is it nessecary to mist even if you don't have contams?

3. When should dunking be done? When your casings stop producing mushrooms? When you have contamination? Or would it help to dunk a cake before casing it?

I've tried searching but I have been unable to find direct answers to my questions. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

In reply to:

thats a load of poo poo!

i will try to answer all but let me start out by saying the answers to all these questions are on this site and in these boards...you gotta look around and read.

1. cutting works...crumbling in a baggie works. make sure cakes are done first. 1 week after outside is colonized is good

2. cool mist humidifier...do a search till you find some setup pics.

3. no. never as long as humidity stays above 98%. no.

3. you have 2 number 3's...duh after each flush.

I don't want to use a humidfier. I know if I have to start drilling holes in my terrarium and hooking up bottles I'll just fuck itup. I've read that people who use perlite should use an air pump. What kind should I use and how do I set it up? Sorry about the 2 number 3's... was distracted as I was typing. As for the searching... I either get a millon and one posts come up (and I don't have time to LOOK through them all) or I get nada. Or I get part of my question answered. Thought you guys were here to help You hurt my feelings.

ok sorry bud!

perlite will keep it nice and humid for ya...all you need now is one of those cheap as heel fish tank bubbler things and a little hose and a jar of water..

just hook up the bubbler and run the hose into the terrarium and down into the glass o water....done....oh yeah...dont forget to cut a tiny hole in the bottom of you terrarium so the co2 can get out...co2 is heavier than air so it should be pushed out slowly by the new air coming in via the bubbler...

your all set! muuuuuhaaahaha
