Just your average laptop,, forgive me for knowing very little about all this.
I'm not sure what you mean by "synths",,.

Yerr, i was trying to keep it on PC.
As i say i don't know what i'm doing but if i can find a decent program i'll teach myself from there.

I liked the sound of the comp competition tracks, that's the kinda thing i'd be interested in getting into.
I don't even know if it's possible through a PC program,, .

I would recommend Reason 3.0, by Propellerhead Software.

Reason 3.0

It's a fully capable TIGHTLY integreated studio with everything you need to release any sort of electronic track of any kind. It's very professional as well. Many artists use Reason for a variety of different purposes because of it's great workflow and no-bullshit design. It's great for new people because it only has the tools you need. It forces you to use what you have instead of getting lost trying out synth after synth after synth. I would recommend this over anything.

If anyone else recommends anything else, don't listen to them

Definitely, Reason is a great program, that or Ableton Live would be the right foot to start on. You can "find" either one pretty easily. If you'd like to hear some tracks made with Reason, check out the webpage below.

I completely disagree with you, but yeah, most people like Reason for some strange reason... For a begginer I think Fruity loops is the way to go.

Yea...I'd go with the fruity loops as well.
Also check out www.kvraudio.com for more synth/effect plugins.

Well, If your serious about making music, Reason is a good start, ProTools or Logic is ideal for professional music production. Fruity Loops is on par with techno ejay in my opinion.

Fruity Loops is a fully featured studio and isn't even in the same ball park as eJay =/ You could use FL Studio to do anything you wanted, just like any other host.

Well, like i said, if your serious about production, I wouldnt recommend fruity loops. Pro Tools and Logic IMHO are the best readily available programs right now, and Reason can be rewired with either i believe, though i could be wrong about logic. I still love reason, but after awhile its hard to get away from that 'tin box' sound. You should be able to get them all for free, so try em out and see which one caters to you most.

You do realize ubuntustudio is not a music program, right? It's a full operative system.

I know jack shit,,
That's finished downloading but i haven't looked at it yet...

That'll be a tomorrow job.

I liked the fruity loops demo,, but i couldn't crack it..
It's not that i'm unwilling to pay,,, more that i didn't know if there were any better alternatives.

But yea it didn't seem as specialized,, i don't really know tho...
