question about(opium) poppies

I'm interested in the method of extracting a smokable opium substance from the opium poppy plant. is it really as easy as cutting the pods and collecting a goo that you let dry? sorry i sound retarded right now lol . I'm just reallly stoned and I'm really interested in how to grow opium poppies!. also, how do you know when the pods are ready to be cut? thanks for your time

You can look around at say.. www.google.com search for methods
and they are ready with the crown on the top of the pod turns up

you really need to grow a large amount to collect much opium... anyway

you tell they are ready when the color of the pod changes and the ridge line below the pod will get dark. The soil should be dry so the alk content is high.

Read my "Opium Poppy Grow Tips" - The slicing can begin about 7 to 10 days after the pedals fall. The pods will form a chalky like film layer on their surface, some varieties' crowns will turn upwards, and some varieties will have a faint brown ring that will form just where the pod meets the stem.
