Inorder to grow upwards, shrooms need a little bit of light from above. They do not to need it to grow. They will grow anyway, but without light they will grow in different directions. Light from above makes the shroom grow upwards. Maybe the faact that the casing container is transperent made them grow like, or the the fact they were in black ness from above because of the aluminum foil on top. Try to wrap it with black cloth and give it light from above only.Later, tweedy.

The casing is only wrapped with foil around the sides not on top. My question is whether or not twisted, below the casing shrooms can be harvested after they mature; or if there is any way to correct the problem at this stage. Thanks

Thanks Alien! My anxieties are relieved. I was just so happy to see growth, even if it was below the surface.

I used clear plastic containers and the same thing happened to me. I just put duct tape around the area where the three layers are.------------------ My mind is corrosive...

I am so glad you went first, I am about to case this weekend, and my container was clear also. What size container did you use? The one I am thinking on is 8.5" * 11.5" and 2.5" deep tupperware..... Peace /Gadget

Gadget,Mine are about the same size as yours...but about 5 inches deep. Wrap foil or something around the sides and bottom of the containers to keep the light out. I scoffed at first...but now I know. I think it will work out ok though. My eqs are looking really good.

I wouldn`t call that a problem..just get the casing out of your container and place it in your terrarium...the shrooms will grow on the sides on the top... I allways do that, I let my casings grow and when starting to pin I take them out of the box, You rsik contamination if you just leave the shrooms growing on the sides...

I encourage this pattern in my trays. It turns out that these 'premies' are often the largest fruiting bodies produced, and they don't detract from the later flushes in any real way. So long as the trays are thin enough, the turgor pressure building up in the mushrooms will force a gap along the edges, meaning it becomes increasingly easy to harvest them as time goes on. Those you can't get are merely decomposed by the mycelial network and the nutrients are then re-used for later fruiting bodies. Besides, sometimes you can't wait for more fruit...
