searching for studies

I'm really interested in the scientific/physiological aspect of psychedelics. I'd like to read more factual studies about this topic. I'd even read theories and speculation, but I'm really curious about the scientific truths concerning psychedelics and trips. Please let me know of any really intriguing studies/books/etc.

study anything you can about thalmus and cortex and the motor sensory pathways.
study all you can about alzheimers and short term memory loss.
study about the holographic memory which operates even when parts of brain are removed
study anything you can about the cerebellum (too little known about this - but also study about waveform circuitry and delay lines and see how it correlates - I call this organ a multitimer - useful for coordination and powerful mathematical projection and expectation timing routines)
study everything about the brainstem and reticular formation (how this gates sensation and affects sleep).
it's all there but it is still in pieces.

then look at how skimpy the science is on psychedelics, mere active binding sites and the occasional uptake and fatigue of neurotransmitters. the work to be done should tie the biological structures and biophysics to these chemicals and help define consciousness and mental states.

i'll be picking this book up when it comes out... the free chapters touch on what you're looking for, and it looks like the book will be full of educated theory and speculation.

one of James Kent's main hypotheses is feedback.
in my emails with him he was not at the point of determining where feedback takes place, or how it is involved in psychedelic phenomena.
however he was adamant that it was the essential factor.

a feeding back "circuit" exists that handles variable data and the signals on this "circuit" are extended by altered mental states (dreaming and psychedelics)

the community investigating neurophysics is not organized to the point where they agree on the following information or on James' proposals that are colored by his entheogen relations.

somatosensory feedback:

1) spinal signals -> brainstem (potential filtering by reticular formation)

2) brainstem -> thalamus (establishment of fading pulse train from each incoming signal -liek feedback but it is measureable as a pulse train of descending amplitude))

3) thalamus -> cortex as a series of pulses (known since mid 20th century)

4) interference of electrical fields in cortex (this is not yet experimentally proven, although it is observed and used as experimental evidence as electrical fields are measured, and the brain responds to electrical stimulation suggesting receptors to field variance is part of the cortical structure)

5) detection of peaks of interference by multiaxoned cells (multiaxonned cells are known, but not understood, I have proposed that they are involved in responding to the field variances in the cortex - there may be a train neurons conducting this field variance to the multiaxoned cells which are in the cortex and in basal ganglia: this sense can be conceived as a kind of retina that sees electrical fields: the mind is like vision of field variance and each gestalt field pattern potentially connects to a multitude of others that have been established and stored in the structure.)

fixation of memory takes place where multiaxoned cells connect to any active cortical neurons (at that gestalt moment) - sub threashold signals from branched axon cells.

6) feedback style re-exitation of cortical cells involved in previous events by aggregates of multiaxoned cells (plurality of multiaxoned cell contacts can generate threashold).

this feedback causes recall of associated gestalts

the circuit is variable enough to handle full holographic memory storage and recall, and the extension of the signal pulse train at the thalamus or between cortex and multiaxoned cells can explain all the psychedelic phenomena.

eg. extra serotonin can facilitate extended feedback from the multiaxonned cells by predisposing cells to respond to fading signals for a longer time.

it actually makes sense when the cortex is viewed as mappable - i.e. each sensory and motor part of the body has a point of reflection on the cortex.

..and even more simple, on the neo cortex. That seems to generally be the main cause of the feedback which matters to an aware and conscious mindstate, generating that 'inbetween-reflection' place which we notice as difference from simpler animals.
Like on (a mild) ayahuasca, as I closed my eyes I had brilliant photorealistic 3-D visions (like in real world), better than every technical stuff so far and it was there (present) whatever I thought. Only, every thought mixed into this high resolution panorama cinemascope 3D sensation.
Clearly, that was the reflective canvas, where my mind projects into the visual area, giving itself feedback about reality.
(Btw, this experience was one of the greatest and stunning I ever had, because of its [relative] 'absoluteness' and profundity :wink:)

thanks man

looks like i have more studying to do to really understand the mechanisms of these proposals. what we could really use is somebody with spare cash friendly to psychedelics who could fund some private research on these phenomena.
