Does contamination truly mean the end?
    #694028 - 06/22/02 10:15 AM (21 years, 9 months ago)

If a jar starts growing something other than white mycellium, is it possible that the mycellium will grow faster, robbing the contaminant of the nutrition that it needs, effectively killing the contamination?

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO KEEPS THIS SITE ALIVE!!!

i have had signs of cobweb that have been completely destroyed by the strength of the cake, but cobweb is one of the weaker contams. if the contam is something other than cobweb it is probably the end.

I guess the main problem though is that this is my first try, and I don't know if what I see is contamination or just the vermiculte. The seven jars I have were innoculated 12 days ago, and they all look like cookies and cream ice cream--mostly white with black spots.

This might do better in the contamination forum?

From what i can see it looks like that just vermiculite. Wait until you think it's %100
colonized then crack the lid and smell it. You should be able to tell that way.
Breath in easy( breathing in black contam can make you sick)So this might not be the greatest idea but this doesn't look contaminated but it's hard to tell looking at the picture and not "really seeing it.

Thanks everyone for your input. I'm in no rush, so I'll just let 'em sit and see what happens.
