Sizziling cobweb
    #1592096 - 05/30/03 05:05 AM (13 years, 6 months ago)

Welp, afoaf has a huge bulk horse poo going, but smells like wine fermenting and has a bad case of cobweb, looks like.
Afoaf sprayed with H2O2:H2O in 1:1 ratio (3% H2O2 solution)... the damm thing started sizzling.

Here's pictures of the poop beforehand:

Never really had cobweb problems. Took a whiff it smells like wine fermenting.
Hopefully that sizzling H2O2 killed the Cobweb.

Keep y'all updated.

Anno recently give me good info on that, same thing happend to me, make sure there just enough water in it so that if you squeeze it hard in your hand, just a few drop will come out and after your pasteurize your bulk horse poo , make sure you cool it down in the oven at 140 for 10 hours, to kill the bacteria you woken up with the pasteurisation
see http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/23418
and http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/23534
say thanks to Anno for those

That sounds like overkill to me. Proper pasteurization does not require such long times of heating.

I do believe the water content, proper aeration, and asceptic technique are key to preventing bacterial/mold contamination.

Cobweb has a fruity smell to it I have found. It is possible that his substrate has no bacterial contam and only a mold contam.

1:1 ratio is too strong and damages mycelium too much. H2O2 reacts when in touch with organic cells, that sizzling is H2O2 breaking down mould and mycelium.
Btw, wine fermenting odor can be related to bacterial growth or amonia acumulation, eighter way that casing is possibly lost.

I use a 1:1 dilution. The dilution is of a 3% solution resulting in a 1.5% solution, not a 50% solution.

Lost, I should hope not. Never took throwing away things too well...

Let's say... how about we.. give it a little trim...

Also, that hasn't been cased my friend, that is poop colonizing. AFOAF was waiting for it to reach 100% before cobweb struck.

That's ok, i thought he was saying the result of the dilution was 3% H2O2. Thanks for the correction.

Well, this didn't need a haircut like I thought it would.
The smell is gone, the cobweb gone, and quite frankly the mycelium is recovering quite nicely.
Keep you all updated.
