Glass on Glass bowl stuck in downstem

Tonight is a bad night.  I do not think it is saveable, as it is possibly jammed!  Does anyone have any simple ways of fixing this problem? :blush:

maybe boil the whole rig in salt water, just to get things movin'. If there's resin down there, that should dissolve it, or at least soften it up a bunch, then it should move.

CAREFUL, it'll be super hot. Use cloves or washcloths or something.

Boiling makes glass expand. Sure it will soften the resin, but there shouldn't be any between the joints. I never advise anyone to boil glass. Any thermal stresses or cracks will pop and break.

Can't you just moisten it and twist it out? Did you try a lubricant? You should rub the glass on glass down with a thin bit of vasaline before using.

I got it out, I had to twist it out by doing rapid twist jerk and pause movements, in very rapid succession to losen it.  Took 15 minutes of doing that. :blush:

Ethanol (high proof alcohol[vodka/everclear/golden grain]), ethanol + methanol (denatured alcohol from hardware store), or isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) should all solve your problems.

I use rubbing alcohol and salt to clean my bowl.

I'm pretty depressed, i had to cut the gasket thing (The rubber one) that holds the glass stem in the bong tight. Now I can't use the bong till tomorrow. Damn.

well it is glass on glass in terms of downstem and pipe.  It's frosted Glass on Glass and creates a perfect seal.  if I cup my hand over the bowl and suck on the bong it makes a vacuum. :blush:

yesh, glass on glass ON GLASS is the way to be ;p, but maybe glass on glass on gaskget is good cause it is less likely to be permamnetely damaged, roor/hurricane glass on glass ON GLASS (that is the spot where female goes in to bong ) must be fixed in a kiln big enough if it breaks, ive seen many  a ROOR go the way of the dinosaur that way...

however any bong with gaskget can be turned into  glass on glass male/female, which is nice

I haven't smoked since last august, I am on probation though,  so im being a good boy :laugh:

bend a paper clip (or similar malleable but sturdy metal) to a "v" just larger than the tube diameter, push it down and twist it until you can hook it on the end of the stem, then use short quick pulls to ease it out.

wish I had figured this out before i put a crack in my ONE DAY OLD bong trying to twist it out. still works though.

trust me. I tried isopropyl with rock salts. hot water, cold water, salt water. twisting, gentle tapping, pulling, wrapping a rubber glove tight around it to get a grip. will power, psychic power, magic powers. i've done the R&D.

Sorry to rebump this thread but I have a very similar problem. I accidentally kicked my 2 footer over, with the glass on glass down stem surviving but the glass on glass bowl fracturing at the base. After removing the downstem, the tip of the bowl that was in the downstem is still stuck in, making the downstem unusuable. Shame, because it was a 100 dollar bowl...

The downstem is intact except for the parts of the bowl stuck in the glass on glass part. Any ideas?

Try sticking it in the freezer, without water. The cold temps might be enough to make the glass shrink a little bit.

Edit: Clean it with rubbing alcohol and salt first, then rinse it and let dry, then do freezer.
