Newly tilled and mulched garden (pics)

I've always been into gardening in one way or another.  I used to collect cacti back in the day, then I got a habanero plant and well, it all went uphill from there :smile: 

I recently tilled up an area in my backyard that gets a good amount of sun, not that large, but it'll do for most of my plants.  Right now there is only 3 tomatoe plants, two large fruit, and one cherry tomatoe, my ~1 year old habanero, which produces some nice peppers, which are amazingly hot, and I have some small morning glory (heavenly blue) plants planted infront of a gate so they can cover that with nice big blue flowers :smile: (and maybe for other reasons). 

here is a picture of this piece of land, which I had to rid of a bunch of day lilys and wild violets, then till up and mulch.  Tomatoe plants suffered a little transplant shock at first, but they are looking healthy again:




I'm adding the following:
  -Leonurus Sibericus (germinating (right one in picture))
  -Silene Capensis (germinating (left one in picture))
  -Chamomile, which I actually found growing wild at a nursery, and the lady let me uproot one for free :smile:(on the right of the picture.
  -Licorice Mint (on left back of picture, and not going to plant mint of chamomile in garden because of their weed-like qualities, but have some nice planters for them, will make great tea :wink:)


**i also have the following seeds that I can germinate:  Mexican poppy, datura, various poppies, various cacti (non-active), tobacco, some others.

I only really plan on growing the tobacco after this, and possibly datura for the large flowers, not to ingest.





my germination technique, please comment so I can improve:  Put semi-loose soil in the containers, and then moisten with water and drop seeds (which soaked in warm water for ~1 hour) 2 into each compartment, either ontop of soil, or just below, then put plastic wrap over top to keep moisture and heat in, and then using my lamp to keep it all warm.

no big white ones? so tobacco and datura both have small purple flowers?

You may want to keep the mulch directly off the plants. I know some plants/trees do not like it. But, having it in there is A okay. And it looks nice too.

thanks, I'll keep that in mind if anything starts to get ill, and I'll make sure and update with any new news :wink:  I have a lot of free seeds coming to me from that gov site, ephedra and miracle fruit being a few, so it should be a nice season!

I have seeds for the Datura with the big white flowers too if you want some.

havent gotten them yet, but the mail does come today, so I'll let you know :wink:  I'm thinking of growing the tobbacco to make blunt papers

but...
  you will have to cure it though first for best flavor.
  then just use the huge stems for insecticide or smudging.
 
  I was thinking about extractiong from some because the plants are very resinous and sticky.  theres nicotine trichomes all over them hehe

Alright! Habanero! I used to grow those when I had a yard. I hope the tobacco goes well. I've tried to grow mapacho twice now, but I keep fucking it up. The seedlings get stunted, and then die.

Does anyone have a link to some tobacco germination tips?

i put in a request for what i hope to be the naga jolokia pepper, which is about 8-10x as hot as the habanero chile :laugh:  I can't wait to obliterate my mouth!

*update:  I got my free orange mint and chocolate mint cuttings in the mail today, so i finished putting those, my licorice mint, and my chamomile in a planter, and watered it all down, and now it's about to rain too, so hopefully they wont be like turkeys :grin:

I also filled another 3x2 planter thing with Argemone Mexicana seeds, two per compartment, and did the same process as the others to try and get them to germinate.

oh, and my habanero is def. liking the outside sun better, since before it was only producing one pepper at a time, and now it has three growing, and more coming in :smile:  my cherry tomatoe plant also has what appears to be a tomatoe coming in.  All the morning glory plants, four of them, are doing pretty well, expect for one that seems to be wilting.  From what I've heard though, you really only need one or two to cover a fence, so I can't wait to see what it does!

  give them lots of root space and two will cover the whole fence :thumbup:
  I grow those every year.
  they will grow very huge if your fence was really high
  I gotta bring my Rivea Corymbosa outside soon

sounds good to me!  they'd be covering that fence thing that's up against the side of the house.  And you know what mushroom that is?  jw, because it's in my planter that has basil and horseradish in it, and wanted to know before I pulled them out :tongue:

Hows it going? I currently have about 32 plants going mostly tomatoes and peppers. 14 tomato 14 pepper plants and 4 watermelon mounds. I have about half of all the plants growing in bio-bizz premix, and some of my herbs blending in nicely. I have 2 bettaboys, 4 cherry wine(?), 4 Mr. Stripeys, 4 mini type tomatoes. And god knows what kind of chilles, jalapeno, and other peppers I got lol.

Time for an update:

Added:
purple bell pepper
2 roma tomato plants
banana pepper (i think)

Had to take out all buy one of the Morning Glory plants, but the one I left is doing well, and I just moved one from my jiffy rooter thing back into the garden, so hopefully it'll do as well.  Also have a third in the jiffy right now to root.

The tomato plants are doing very well, and while my habanero plant is still the same size, it is producing a lot more peppers than it did inside. 





I also tilled and mulched another area, but it's mostly shady throughout the day, and I don't really have any shade liking plants besides Coleus, but I don't want to put them down where they can't be seen.

As for my little planter with the mint and chamomile, it's doing pretty well :smile:



that's after picking off all the chamomile flowers that had their petals turned down.

Then there is my jiffy-like tray.

from left to right: 
Mugwort > Nicotania Tobaccum > Silene Capensis > St. John's Wort > Stevia > Naga Jolokia pepper

The plant in the top mid is one of the nearly dead morning glories I am reviving, and the coleus and an unknown (green) plant on the right (rooting cuttings).



Then, atlast, my Leonurus Sibericus, Nicotania Tobaccum, some non-germinated Argemone Mexicana and silene capensis.  Then, in the peat pots is my fairly new ephedra Sinica, and my new Calea plant in the back from Blazed123. 



Here's a close-up of the biggest Ephedra so far:



I just recently moved both trays to a window that has the most sunlight coming in, so they should take off from here.  I have the glass doors open most of the time for straight sun since its a sun room, but right now its really windy out, and i dont want anyhting getting damaged.
