Here are the pictures: Cake number 1 has been damaged. I tried to tape the flashlight to the top of my chest, but it fell and broke off some of my cake. now the cake is all blue and bruised, i feel so sorry And that stupid number 1 is a little piece of shit that isn't doing much.

Nice cakes. Question...is the casing as dryed out as it appears in the photo...it's just that my casing never shines due to it's high moisture content. Very nice cakes though.------------------ Peace, Love & Light

To get a decent light source, I found a pretty cool light setup. It ia a little six inch flourescent tube bought at Home Depot. I know it was under $20, and it works great. My setup is hidden, so I have an extension cord running out of it. If having a cord is not an option, may I suggest the same version, also found a Home Depot, that takes standard AA batteries. I'm not sure how long that power supply will last, so I opted for the external cord. Also, I used double sided tape to affix it to the top of my box, above the terrarium. It is a cool light source and you won't need much anyway to induce pinning. Take in mind though if you do choose battery operated as the light source, you may not be able to run a timer setup.

I believe the casing is dry indeed. Although i spray them once a day with a h202/h20 formula, perhaps it isn't enough? I give each of them 3 good sprays at night before i go to bed. And i still haven't found a lamp. I guess i'll have to hunt downstairs. Or use another flashlight ------------------ He thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts. http://www.geocities.com/thunderbacon/

I found a light source! Remember those Light-Bright toys? Where you have a little white box thing and you put black construction paper over it and punch in little lights? Well i used that for my light source! It's prefect! They take christmas lights and i have plenty of those around the house!! Although when i opened my chest today, the cakes were turning blue on the sides where they were exposed to light. Too much heat? Should i back the light away a bit?------------------ He thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts. http://www.geocities.com/thunderbacon/

Hey Thunderfuck! I've found that it's a lot easier to stick things to a HAIRY chest. Cakes look good. I'm curious however, what are you doing to make the terrarium, which looks like it's cardboard, humid. It might be tough to keep that cardboard from getting soggy.

Yes. it is cardboard. It's a shoe box actually. I think i'm going to get something else. And i wanna use my perlite, how much do i put in a tray? Like an inch or something? How much water do i add? After i put perlite in, do i mist it regulary? Right after i put perlite in, do i spray the cakes? Or will everything be moist enough?------------------ He thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts. http://www.geocities.com/thunderbacon/

I think that about two inches of perlite with about 1 inch of the perlite being under water works great. The idea is to maximize the surface area from which the water evaporates. You could have a small shallow dish with some water in it and the evaporative surface is only a few square inches. Add a handfull of perlite and the surface area is way higher.I dont mist with the perlite setup and everything is moist enough. Just be sure to fan the terrarium regularly to get some good air exchange.

I'm a big perlite fan. I went out and bought the old cool mist deal at Kmart, had a glass drip shield installed in my tank, even had the hose, the screen for the bottom, the whole nine yards. I was easy, I didn't have to fan my shrooms and it worked the very first time. I thought it was the only way and the best way. Well I sort of got tired of changing the water all the time, and then pooring off all the water that dripped to the bottom. So I tried the perlite method out. DAMN if I ever go back to cool mist!! With the perlite method I had bigger shrooms, more shrooms, taller shrooms, and happy shrooms!! I fanned them out everyday like I was supposed too, but It was still less work than the humidifier. Plus you don't need a drip shield with the perlite method cause there isn't enough humidity for it to collect big dropplets on the roof. Well there's my 2 cents. I'll have pic available of my shrooms and set up soon. ------------------ Trying to rationalize with an irrational person, is in itself irrational!
