Question with Perlite
    #3129835 - 09/13/04 01:48 PM (19 years, 6 months ago)

So my choice is perlite against my better judgement.  It seems people's opinions of this small volcanic rock differ from person to person.

Anyway, I've been reading (in multiple places) that perlite needs changed in your terrarium often.  Is this true?  If so, how often (generally) does it need changed?  Are there noticable signs that your perlite needs changed?

Looking for responses from others who use or have used perlite.

Thanks,
  Silven  :mushroom2:

Perlite is the tried and true method of humidification. It has a much higher surface area than volcanic rock (I think), making it a much better choice if you aren't going to use a bubbler or air pump setup.

Change the perlite between runs. e.g. each time you put a new batch of cakes in.

Alternately, you can rinse and re-sterilize the perlite after each run.

No problem. I gave you a 5 shroom rating to get you started. Feel free to return the favor.

Good Luck!
