Growing poppies and questions

I am growing some poppies at the moment, Papaver orientale, Papaver rhoeas and Eschscholzia californica. I will grow some Papaver somniferum too as I have access to seeds of several strains of that too. I heard they can all be used medical but I am not sure how, so can someone please give some more information about this? I did extract the milky latex in an easy and effective way, and it worked well for the three first mentioned species. I tried to smoke it, and it did give a calming, mild buzz and was somewhat relaxing but not much more. Is it safe to make tea out of them, or may they be poison to consume? The somniferums I will of course only grow for drying arrangements and put some life into my garden. Thanks all

Well I know what I need to know about somniferum but not the other papavers, and I dont find much about them at poppies.org
I need some medical information about rhoeas, orientale and californian poppy, like if they are poisonus to consume, how they have and are being used, and reports from people who have done anything intersting with them as they are said to contain various alkaloids etc but not all the same as somniferum, and they are also legal.
Terrible idea to start making heroin.. Thats too fucked up.

As far as I know, the seeds from the oriental poppies are poisonous. Only the opium poppy seeds are safe to consume. However, I don't know if this means the poppy sap from the oriental is poisonous as well. I'd be careful, though. Now, I haven't read anything about california poppies being dangerous, but I've seen little snippets that say they've been used medicinally as an analgesic, though there is no reported morphine content. This doesn't mean there's nothing similar in them. But be careful with those orientals. I wouldn't make tea from them if I were you... I'd just stick with the somniferum, it's the only one I'm positive is non-toxic. But feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, I don't know too much about the topic.
Happy growing, and good luck!

Thanks for the information. I guess drinking tea of orientals wouldn't give much of an effect anyway, at least smoking it did not.
When it comes to Californian ones I heard indians used it against minor pains and toothace etc. But I never found info on how they were used, consumed or smoken or what.. Neither any doses descriptions.
Take care

You dont extract heroin, heroin is made from morphine. It takes a lot of poppies to get a decent harvest of opium.
