Too late...
At first I birthed them and put them in the terrarium anyway. But after doing my homework on foul smells via shroomery search I decided it wasn't worth the possibility of making me or anyone else sick. Especially when they would be consumed New Years. That COULD have been a Very bad situation. I would rather not even worry about it. I did manage to find 2 that didn't smell bad and saved them. My other 2 cakes (including the one that was completely brittle and dried out are now pinning, and my 4 little casings of 2 cakes is colonizing nicely as well. I expect pins on the casing any minute now. SO total I have 4 cakes in cake form, and 4 small casings (each is half a cake). So a New Years trip has a chance...

that foul smell, somthing like rotting apples, at least me and my compadres thought, is BAD.. that is bacillis!.. throw out, and clean like hell.. everything.. it reproduces like crazy, and will spread like crazy.. try adding antibiotics to your substrate.. but other than that you've lost your jars
