slight smell on cake
    #1551665 - 05/15/03 05:41 PM (15 years, 15 days ago)

I have 2 cakes in a growing chamber...temp is around 70... dips below here and there....1 is double end vermic cased and 1 is not....neways...both have a slight odor when I smell them up close....not mushroomy..but not an all out foul smell either..just slightly sour I'd say....I can't even smell it when I open up the chamber after 12 hours....only when smelling right up close too it(I even bumped my nose on the cake once and bruised it ) so my question is....is this a bacteria problem?...I'd really hate too have too throw it out....the one with double end casing is just busting out with pins now

It could be your vermiculite, sometimes I get a funk smell from wet verm, maybe this is what you're smelling.

Yep, could be the verm, but more importantly is there any color change in the cake beside the blue from your nose?

Then it is probably the stale smell of water and verm. mixed together.
