Do you feel "going to school" is empty and pointless?
    #6770978 -

I feel that going to school, in order to "make it" feels so empty.

What I yearn to do is to travel around the world to exotic places and do exotic things.

I don't want to make it so that I'm trapped in some life where I'm working 9-5 doing the most meaningless things.

I do enjoy the subjects that I'm learning. However I think school is a rigid set of standards for conforming.

I learn just as well on my own.

Learning should not be about doing tests and tests.

It should be an exploratory process.

I'm really ready to graduate. I should just take a minor and run with my other major and get out of school.

School is destroying my mental health.

For some people it works, for others it doesn't. I'm like you....I'm a ramblin' man.

If school's not working, then drop it and follow your heart, follow your dreams; this your life brother, do what fits you best.

I'm glad I finished high school. That shit was HARD and I'm proud of myself for writing those 10 page papers.

College is option IMO. I have some and I'm starting to regret it. I taught myself all about computers and I'll continue to do so at my own discretion. No need to pay up some big institute.

the way i see it now that im graduated high school -

either way, if you living on your own, your most likely going to have to be working a 9-5 to support yourself and possibly your family.  that is, if you don't have another source of income.

so if im gonna be working a 9-5 either way, i might as well take up a trade.  fuck university

I think school is better than the altnernative, but like was said, it's not for everyone.

I think getting a degree is important for your future pursuits - you know that one's that involve money?

It's a dirty game, but the only one in town. Good luck with your endeavors.

I felt the same way, then I dropped out. Now I work a 9-5. School isn't as bad as you think. I'll be back there someday. For now, it's debt debt debt.

I left school when I was 16.

Test and exams don't mean shit as far as showing a persons intellegence goes..it's more an indication that a person has good memory.

I fucking hated school and I was totally not a popular person..
I got bullied and got in fights too often.

I think that primary school (like when your 5-12 years old) is important to teach a kid how to read and write and count, but high school has alot of unnecessary shit in it..

Memory is an indication of intelligence. If you can't retain knowledge, you're gonna be fairly stupid.

How old are you now? What is your living condition? How are you feeling about your life and future? Sorry for the questions, just a curious man wanting some answers.

I'm 22 now...

I'm unemployed at the moment and still live with my parents (i know i'm getting a bit old for that now)

I'm just waiting to start college later this year (not sure what course yet, media or sound technology or something)

I went to college a couple of year back and did "Higher English" which is a British thing.
I got a shitty grade for the final exam but I understood it all perfectly...that's why I say that exams are more about memory...there was just too much for me to remeber to write a fucking huge essay on book and other stuff like that.

I've had a few shitty littlew jobs that I have hated in the last few years and never did well in any of them...infact i've been sacked a few times..

In all honesty it sounds more that you're bitter in your inability to succeed than an actual gripe with tests.

I think tests are a fine gauge of knowledge. When you're placed into the situation in which you need to use said knowledge then it's exactly like a test, if not harder, because you usually aren't expecting it.

One of the major skills that school will teach you is persistence, and putting up with things you don't want to do. It's a life skill, and it may seem useless at first.. but it sounds like that might be what you're lacking.

Well, thank's for being honest about it, especially with a complete stranger, trust is an all too rare quality in people these days. Would you say you regret your decision to drop out or are you glad you did? How are you going to college without a high school diploma, or did you go back and finish it? Again, any answers your willing to give are appreciated.
