Reassurance for my fellow newbie.
    #676092 - 06/13/02 05:33 AM (22 years, 3 months ago)

ok...so its been a long long process of failure so far I have to say...

the past 2.5 months=

I've had 2 batches die, a few batches of low-germinating spores, a few failed Myco Bags (I have to point out sporeworks are very receptive people to fix any problems - they're on track now...), a HUGE list of problems (mostly ones that were out of my hands...but not ALL of em )

I just generally never got anywhere...almost just quit and threw my terrarium out the damn window....

but, one of the very very 1st batches...I had 1 jar that lived...3/4 colonized...(Puerto Rican) so I figured for shits and giggles I'd birth it and cut away the chunk of uncolonized substrate with a red hot butter knife (on a glass plate that I nuked for 45 seconds and let cool beforehand)

So I gave it a little sterile container with sterile perlite in it to get it back on its feet...sure enough fluffy mycellium grew and coated it....

Then...NOTHING....again...

It had been laying dormant for prob 2 weeks, when I decided to cold shock it....so I did that...about 14 hours of refrigerator time... (the whole container, in a plastic bag, and well away fromt he cold air blower)

a week and a half later (a few days ago) I open it up to find 9 big pins (1/4 inchers) So I injected 1 cc of water into it (through an overlay patch) and fast forward 3 more days to now, and the stems are fattening up quite a bit...

(You can see the water making a diff already....they were pretty thin and non meaty at first, but now the base of them has dramatcally started fattening)

My point in this long over-elaborate post is this:

i learned more than any tek could teach me...by failure

rememeber...if failure makes you quit then you lose the BENEFIT of failure...which is knowledge for the future tries.

So, to any of you Newbies that might be having a hard time...it'll work eventually...just keep goin

(I know how much it sucks to wait and wait and wait, but I find eventually you begin to forget about the end result and get more facinated with the process itself)

Christ, I feel like a veteran even though technically this is my first success...I bet I could recite the Teks off the top of my head at this point )

Oh, and I have great thriving success on its way now, but it took fucking up everything at first...(You know you're doing it right when your 1/2 pinters complete themselves in like 12 days )

it really does work. Oh, and I'm going camping next weekend

Nate

Good hear hear your on track. The main reason I see that people fail is impatience. Always checking to see if they're ok. Doing things to fix things that dont need to be fixed. The key is take your time. Patience. Good luck down the line

Failing just makes you stronger even though it seems like it doesnt. Now that you have a taste of success, just work from there and all should go well.
