pinning on bottom

I had taken my mycellium out of the incubator and put it on a shelf to induce invitro pinning, and it has been 9 days already. Before I took the jars out I turned them upside down. The problem is that I AM starting to see pins, but only around the place where my mycellium meets the dry vermiculite layer. Infact I see A LOT of pins there, but none anywhere else. Should I birth these cakes??? Why am I not seeing pins anywhere else?

Also another question.
The bottom of the jars have a wierd formation of mycellium, it is a mix between white mycellium that sort of looks like overlay in a casing, and puffy bits (balls) of white mycellium. Is this normal?? or could the puff be contam?
