regarding the processors

one is a really fast single processor with 1MB on it...it also has a little faster hz on it

the second one is 2 pocessors 1 ontop the other...but these processors by themselfs would be slower than the otherone because of slower clock speed and they have 512kb on them

also the first processor is a 939 socket

the motherboard you show is a Socket AM2

pretty sure they arn't compatable

everything else looks ok to me, im not sure what pc2 ram is thow double check that isn't for intel boards

also the little specifcations button on newegg lets you know more about the products and can solve most of your questions.

lastly on the cases....if your just gunna put this thing together and then forget about it till you throw it away then pick w/e case.

if your gunna be updating your computer to keep up with games then you want a NICE case....its a bitch going in and out of them and you will regret it i promise you.

You want a BIG BIG case, with easy access panels to your motherboard, quick relese pins on your pci slots are nice as well.....LOTS OF FANS.....lack of is leading cause of computer problems heat is not your friend and they run really hot these days.

well that second processor has 2x512, but its still 500 mhz slower than the first one... which is a good amount of speed if you ask me.

does it make a difference between 939 sockets and AM2 sockets? is one better than the other?

what about running 2 processor, each at 2.4 to make a 4.8 comp.... is this doable and if so.... how?

1) is the video card i picked out above a dual monitor video card?

2)what if i want 2 smaller hard drives instead of one big one? one hard drive to run programs off of, and the second to store. is this a better idea to make the computer run faster than having one large one? is more memory required or a special motherboard in order to have dual hard drives?

3) the dvd/cd burner and player.... is it infact both a burner AND player for both dvds AND cds?

4) what about an ethernet card for networking and dsl? what category are those under?

this tower does come with a power supply, so it is cheaper in the long run, the only thing is it says its motherboard capability is only ATX, where as the other case has ATX and micro ATX, which is the kind of motherboard i got.

so in order for it to work... i have to find a case that allows micro ATX correct?

the problem is you typically can't use both processors at the same time....however with vista "maybe".

939 vs am2.....newer is prob better....but its mostly just to get you to buy a new motherboard....doesn't really matter which you get as you will be forced into a new socket by time you want a new processor

fuck intel, amd rules

if it was me i would go with dual core aka 2 procossor and get the fastest one you can afford before the big price jump(aka 4800 might cost $200 then a 5000 costs $500) becuase you won't be upgrading it later

lastly, alot of questions you have can easily be found with google....stop being so god dam lazy alot of your questions can be answered with a little common sense.

p.s. check out asus motherboards its what i have and im not disapointed.

but i seem to be able to get a much cheaper and faster deal with intel. why dont you like them?

i know i ask alot of questions.. but building comps is completely new to me and sometimes google cant be specific for what i am asking.

thanks for all your help though, youve helped me tweak the minor things i needed to know like socket and stuff.

the thing that was bugging me was the dvd/cd drive question because your answer was right at the top of the page of the link you provided

anyways i say amd because intel is a shitty company.

as for the processors themselfs...typically amd is faster, but the intel core 2 doe or w/e is ahead of the game

however the intel processor you have linked is a pentium D which im pretty sure are the budget intel cards.

unless you wanna spend $170 + on a pentium 2core duo then you need to get a amd x2 4200-4800

the 939's are going to be cheaper as well as the motherboards that you put them on.....and your not going to notice any difference between a

939 4200 and a am2 4200

that being said maybe you won't notice a differene between an amd and the intel one you linked however the amd will be cheaper.

incase you don't know the "4200" in the amd name is how fast it is compared to an intel card

so a 3200--1.8 ghz amd is as fast as a 3.2 intel

holy shit, so amd is saying their cards are in the 4 ghz range already?

if thats the case, ill for sure go with amd.

does a particular motherboard make the processor run any faster? or it doesnt matter what kind of motherboard?

2 x 1MB L2 Cache

whats this cache mumbo jumbo?

all i see is either 2x512 or 2x1mb

i can figure out which one is better... but what does this actually do, and how big of a difference is it to go from 1 mb to 2 mb in cache?

that is going with a micro atx board.  what is the real difference between the micro and the regular atx, other than size?  is one better than the other?

1mb is def better, but consider price wisely. its sorta like your ram, do you wanna carry 1 basket of apples home or 2 baskets? the actually performace may be a little different so do what i say below

check out tomshardware.com they have reviews of all the processors and how fast they are....




yah other than size....one being smaller is going to result in everything being crammed

so im going to guess not as well built....since its built for space not performance.

second you are going to have less accomadations

aka 1pci slot instead of 2 or 3

maybe only 2 ram slots instead of 4

they do have pictures on newegg take a look at them

also you should check the manufactors sites and try and find out what people are saying about the "manufactor" and the motherboad your about to find often you will see lots of problems with certain boards

again i say go asus.

check out toms hardware they might have a review of recent motherboards.

You definitely want to check out the Core 2 Duo by Intel. I highly recommend that over anything AMD is offering at the moment. Also, what is your budget and want do you want to do with your computer?

CPU - you're looking at 3 different CPU's with 3 diffierent sockets. Only the brisbane is AM2 and is compatible with the AM2 motherboard you're looking at.

if that is your price range for the processor, what you've picked would be fine. if i were you, i'd spring for a core 2 duo from intel.

Motherboard - I would not buy a motherboard with reviews like that. dealing with motherboard problems is a HUGE pain in the ass. also, are you going to use SLI? if not, don't buy it. get something else cheaper without it. there are good AM2 boards by asus, gigabyte, and DFI. You want a board that supports DDR2 ram. socket 939 does not, so avoid that.

RAM looks fine.

Video card looks fine, but i dont know what you want to do with it. depending on your budget and what you want to do, it could be underpowered or you could be wasting money on it that would be better spent improving other aspects of this system. that's your call. i can tell you that it would be compatible with the board you've selected, or any other board that supports PCIe 16x.

optical drive is fine.

PSU is excessive with the current setup. and it looks gimmicky. enermax makes solid PSU's.

i think both of those cases are ugly and probably poorly built and i would not buy either of them. a computer case should not have any plastic on it. i guess that's an opinion.

even though the core 2 is 1.8 ghz, you still think its a better pick over an AMD rated at like 4600?

so with mother boards, is it best to not go with the micro atx?  you also asked about SLI, not sure what it is, does it have to do something with the making of graphics, or the use of different graphics?

honestly i just want a super clean running machine for the internet and various things like music players/ipod type shit.

i dont really plan on doing any major gaming, (but i still want all the porn to look good :smile:

and i am not going to be doing any type of web design, or graphics or anything like that.

so with that in mind, where should i cut from, and where should i add too?

like i said, its basically going to be a highly prized internet surfer with some small programs.  but i still want everything to run and download super clean, super fast.

and you said PSU.... you mean the power supply right?  how many watts is "enough"?  400?  600?  i have no idea?

Definition: SLI is short for Scalable Link Interface. SLI is proprietary to Nvidia graphics cards and is a method of allowing two graphics cards of the same model to be linked and share the load of rendering the graphics on screen. Using two graphics cards linked via SLI greatly improves the performance of the system by rendering the graphics faster. Often up to a 2 times improvement is seen.

so does this mean basically if your just a super game freak you need SLI?

the mother board does accept ddr2, but its a micro, so still waiting to hear if micros are bad.

the processor also seems really fast.

what does the cache, mean and have to do with how a processor works?
