Pan. Subbalteatus Cultivation w/ wild spores

Hello everyone, This is my first time posting on the cultivation board and I have several questions about my attempt at cultivating Panaeolus Subbalteatus from wild specimens I spore printed.

First off, I am 100% positive on what they are. Here's some of my spores.



I Attempted to inoculate a jar of honey water four days ago andthis is what is in it now.



I set up a grow area in a cabinet in which I have a 7 watt bulb in a shot glass that I surround with my jars for heat. The bulb keeps them at a nice area of 80F to 85F.



I have several questions:

1. If my honey water smells bad is it just the mycelium or is there other molds growing? (The stuff is completely white in the jar.)

2. How long could it take for me to start to see mycelium in the seed jars?

3. How long should I wait to see if the seed jars dont work?

4. Any suggestions? Comments?

Hoping to get something like this...

Usually you can smell no weird smells in an LC even when it is contaminated.

If you are using prints from wild specimens you usually need to do agar work to clean up the culture (isolate it away from the bacteria and/or other fungi).

The cloudiness in the fluid of the LC usually indicates a bacterial contamination. However, it appears that you made your LC correctly since there looks to be mycelium within the jar.

Thank you roach man. I'll wait for more suggestions to come in and ill do a follow up.
I'm guessing the LC is useless now? if not then oh well, but I'll make a few more anyways.

You can always try a test jar from your LC to see if it grows out to be myc.

Are you smelling it through the gas exchange filter? If you are, then there's a chance that its fine. Otherwise, if you've been exposing it to open air to smell it, it's likely to be contaminated.

Just a tip: next time you make an LC, only fill up the jar halfway. This allows room to stir, and it also leaves room in the jar for air for the mycelium to breathe. When you stir the liquid, it absorbs some of the gas, encouraging growth.

Not too sure man, But thats damn cool hope it works out I have looked for hours but never found the Pan Subbalteaus it seems like a very sly Fungis

Thank you for the advice guys. I've deducted that the smell isnt contaminants. I dont know what I smelled but it isnt there anymore. I think ill pour the majority of it on my lawn and use a little to test and see if it colonizes well.

I'm sure you can find some Subbs around your area Dr. Mcgill.

I would say the LC is contamed but give it a try...

One thing is for sure though its time to get some agar, and petri dishes. :smile:
