Is this an okay spot to put my jars?

hey guys--found a spot above my water heater for my jars; I have them in a tupperware container with the lid placed askew on top, so there's a little airflow, and they stay around 50%rh and 80F. It's somewhat dusty in that closet, and though I spray liberally 2-3 times a day with lysol, I was wondering if this is NOT an okay place to keep my jars. If I put the lid on all the way, or even use foil, the rh shoots up to 99-100%, so any help would be great...

I tried that for a while until one time when i went to check on them, the water heater was crazy hot. Much too hot, it burned me if i touched it. I dont know if your water heater gets this hot but if it does i dont think that its a good place. I just put mine on top of my heat vents with a towel inbetween the metal vent and the jars.

I'm still trying to find the right spot myself! Short of building a chamber as described by Alien right now I have jars in four different places!

above a refridgerator tends to stay at about the perfect temp. don't stress over not being able to keep it around 82-85 though. it will colonize unless its way too cold.

heh about not colonizing at best temps, my first jar ever colonized to about 90% at the temp of 56-60 F. It took quiet a while tho, but i guess that just shows that it doesnt matter TOO much. but ofcourse the jar dried out =x, but thats another story =)

i keep mine in a styrofoam cooler tilted against my heat vent which is in the bottom of my wall with the lid to the cooler cracke open against the vent
