Jars
    #573192 - 03/08/02 03:09 AM (21 years, 23 days ago)

My first jars that I made I think were dried out in the sterilization process, (when I inserted the jars into boiling water) I only had 1 jar turn out with growing mycel. My temperature was also low so it took around 10days before any signs of mycel. popped up. I threw it out and am now trying my 2nd batch, now with a vornado. (ooh lala). Temperature is at a steady 80-82farenheit with GTs. But i am not certain I didnt dry the verm/flour mix while boiling, What are early signs of the mixture being too dry for mycel to grow? And how long is normal for GT's to take before mycel grows? Thanks for helping this newbie.

Well if the temp is really low it can take longer then 10 days to show any growth...you were probably ok...I dont think that you can really dry out your jars from boiling them unless you were boiling them..smoked a bowl...fell asleep and woke up 8 hours later and all the water from the pot was gone....and as far as the vornado goes...that will dry out your jars..get a styrofoam cooler or a rubbermaid container and use a fish tank heater in a glass jar....and even under optimum conditions it can take a week or so to show any growth..alot has to do with how fresh the spores are.....make yourself a good incubator...lots of teks on here on how to build one...then sit back and be patient
