Intermeidate Questions....

Hey everyone, I have a few questions I was hoping you could help me with:
1.)Ive tried the dunking tek in just straight, filtered tap water with success so far. Ive read of Hip talking about dunking in Milk, however. Is anykind of milk sufficient, or should i use the powdered kind? Why dunk in milk, does it re-fortify the cake with nutrients?
2.)what about chlorine dunking? Should this be done all the time or only when an infection is present? Say I had an infected cake, what would be the procedure? Cut out infection, dunk in 1:100 chlorine/water solution and then dunk in milk? How long should the cake be submerged in the chlorine solution?
3.)The proper way to mist casings. I just had my fist success with casings. 50/50 vermiculite and potting soil. I used one cake casings, so the yield was kinda small, but I want to get the feel for it before I go dedicating large amounts of substrate. Should the casing be misted once a day? Only before the appearance of pins? Or should I mist all the time?
4.)Can I dunk my casings? How should this be done? Just take it out of the cake pan and submerge it in water (or milk) for 24 hours between flushes?
5.)Drinking straw tek w/casings. I had a few severely dried out cakes (humidity in the terrarium was at 60% for 2 weeks!! Hygromter was way off!) I was able to revive them and get a good flush using the drinking staw/drillbit tek. Can I do this with casings too? Say, 4 straws at the corners and one in the middle?
Thanks in advance for any replies!!

>Ive tried the dunking tek in just straight, filtered tap water with success so far. Ive read of Hip talking about dunking in Milk, however. Is anykind of milk sufficient, or should i use the powdered kind? Why dunk in milk, does it re-fortify the cake with nutrients? Use distilled water... Oh and milk is usually pastuerized, not sterilized. So there really are alot of bugs in milk (i mean alot, it's not at all sterile) I think milk might open up to contams, plus, do you like the smell of sour milk? That stuff build up in a terrarium... Use skim milk in either case, or you can try powdered milk, it will be sterilized... You can also make nute water by boiling leaves and grass from your front yard, or use poo juice. >what about chlorine dunking? Should this be done all the time or only when an infection is present? Say I had an infected cake, what would be the procedure? Cut out infection, dunk in 1:100 chlorine/water solution and then dunk in milk? You should use a dilute chlorine mix to dunk to get rid of a contamination... You could also try good ole h2o2...i think the mix of chlorine to water should be greater than 1:100, maybe more like 1:10, just my thoughts. when dunking 24 hours is a good time period.
>The proper way to mist casings. I just had my fist success with casings. 50/50 vermiculite and potting soil. Only before the appearance of pins? Or should I mist all the time? Well anno reccomends using a fine mist so it doesn't block the pores and you get greater yeilds becuase there is air exchange, or something. When you spray make it arc, or something.... Erm, ask anno >Can I dunk my casings? How should this be done? Just take it out of the cake pan and submerge it in water (or milk) for 24 hours between flushes?
Don't dunk your casings, casings keep water in better naturally (thats one of the reasons it gives better flushes) I'm sure you could dunk your casings, but i would reccomend against it.

It's an original idea, but if you have a bottom layer or vermiculite you can use it to rehydrate by dripping water or whatever (milk/bleach) into the layer down the sides of the pan.

use skim milk, it works regardless of what less experienced members of this community may speculate
