Incubator question

Foaf has a rubbermaid that he's using for an incubator . Inside it he placed a fish tank heater inside of a normal jar sized container . He turned the temp all the way up to 93 degrees . Two days later he checked it out and the water in the jug was nice and warm but the air was not. He had 93% hummidity but only at 72 degrees . This rubbermaid is not all that large. Any idea's does he need to add a bubbler or something.

How big is the jar of water? Use like a 3L milk jug or something, the larger it is, the more heat it can radiate. Also, make sure its fully submerged, those things dont like being out of the water. Also, try putting some weatherstripping around the seal, that boosted mine a few degrees. Tosssing a blanket on top could help hold the heat in. And with my heater, I can crank it to max (88) then pull the knob out, turn it so it points at the lowest temp, then crank it up more... I can get the water to 110F

I've allready went to the heater inside jar or jug stuff and didn't like it, so i made it simple and functional and at the end it was a much better idead. I've posted this before, but here it goes again. Post comments or questions if you want. MAIA incubator, Peace, MAIA

what percentage of your jars fall to contamination if any, with all that water in the incubator?

I've fucked up at fruiting stage but i'm allready good enough at colonization process and its routines. I'm experimenting the first time with this new incubator idea, fast colonization and no contams are visible. If the jars lids are closed no contams are considered. I add aprox. 7% (of the water total volume) of bleach so i don't worry about contams If i need to loose the lid a bit. Yesterday i came up with a way of flipping jars (wich i've allready did), take jar out, flip, put inside a resistent plastic bag and put bag inside incubator, i never thought i'd make so easy. Peace, MAIA

MAIA- Bolth ideas seem good , Foaf used anno's setup once without the second bin he just set the jars in the warm water leaving the heater laying long ways against the bottom of the tray. MAIA -why not use h202 instead of messing with bleach ? ANN0- this heater only goes to 93 degrees would the water be warm enough to keep the second bin around 85 degrees ?

It can be done with h2o2 (in theory), although i think h2o2 will break down with the heat thus you'll have to add more, that's the only drawback and that's why i didn't use it. On the other side it can be more adequate than bleach if you've allready loosen the lids, something to consider later... Peace, MAIA
