spider mites grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
    #6642836 -

well i have never had spider mites for 5-6 years of growing lots of different plants.

i went to a greenhouse and bought my wife an ivy that she wanted, well that ivy was looking bad in a month or so and when i took a closer look it had lots of spider mites that were taking over the plant.

so i just threw it out to make sure that i never got them again.

then my kratom started dropping leafs after a closer look it was also infested with spider mites.

i bought this spray for them called safer and used it on the kratom and another plant that i also seen had then.

well they are both dead now.

so i have not had spider mites now in a few months

today i go to water my plants and 6 of my plants have spider mites!!

i am so sick of spider mites!!

any ideas on what to use??

the biggest problem i am trying to avoid is i am getting a big new greenhouse and i dont want all my plants to get these nasty lil mites.

i am hesitant to buy anything because the safer spray said it was SAFE and made from plant materials and it killed my 2 plants.

when i get them, i move.

i have NEVER been able to get rid of them, and i dont know anyone who has.

i know all kindsa meathods.

they never work tho.

plants can usually handle mites if they are outside. preditory mides are also useful.

mites dont like moisture or wind. regular mitsting and fans will slow them down. but reinfest is inevitable.

sorry the prognosis isnt better :P

ive tried ladybugs, apparently they work on aphids, but only if the plants arent too smooth for the ladybugs to climb. (see poppies)
i do not beleive they actually work on mites. :frown:

i have.

i had the worst infestation ive ever seen...
on an MJ grow, to the point where all my buds were entirely covered in webs! i had to vacuum my plants!

so after that i totally gutted the room.
steam cleaned the carpets, repainted all the walls. sterilised everything that was in the room and quit growing for a couple of years...

my rooms have been up and running again for the last 6 months and i havent seen a single mite.
now i spray regularly with spidermitecontrol and buzzoff as a precautionary measure.
but its no good using those sprays once those little bastards get a colony established...

btw... wot im saying is, everyone i know who had mites had to go to extreme lengths to get rid of them, so u will prbably have to do the same royer.
their eggs can lay dormant for quite some time apparently.

Look fopr something called Avid. This will get rid of them and it will do it fast. Just don't ingest any of the plant material for 28 days after using it.

I've had good results using a product called Mavrik...
http://www.yates.com.au/Products/PestControl/InsectsConcentrates/MavrikInsectKiller.asp

Repeat applications are needed to destroy newly hatched eggs and As Magash mentioned, there are limitation to use close to harvest.

pest products containing soaps or oils have a devistating effect when applied to the surface of cacti, particularly trichs :P

If you look for organic ways to ger rid of those guys you should look into ladybugs and rapine mites. You guys who live in decent countries might be able to obtain those rather easily...

I am now having a great deal of rust in some cacti, any ideas of how to deal with?

If you're growing plants like Kratom indoors and you bring them in contact with anything that's been outdoors, you will get spider mites sooner or later. Mine come every winter, when the air inside gets cooler and dry. Things like Ivy and Passiflora are spider-mite magnets, btw.

First thing I do is move the plant outside. Then I squish most of the mites by hand. After, I spray off the tops and bottoms of all leaves with the hose's highest pressure setting. Then comes a general purpose miticide whose name I can't remember. The plant stays in quarantine until it's been mite-free for a month.

Evil little bastards. Make me want to pull out a flamethrower and torch them, plant and all. The good news is that they don't like the SC heat, and will go into "remission" when I put my plants out for the summer.

Outside live many creatures .... Did the mites kill your plants..
or did the chemicals do the damage ??

Do you believe in a biological balance or is it enough to have insects.

BY the way i am pissed off with flies landing on me whilst typing this.

luv yor leavez :crazy2:

persimilis (Phytoseiulus persimilis) will eat up your spider mites, you can introduce these little buggers to your plants and they will eat up your spider mites, when there is no more mites they will become cannibals and eat themself

krixx: when you don't have a clue then stfu, mites kill plants, they do it very well in an unstable indoor environment.
