I don't see why everyone is bitching like a bunch of hypocritical, elitist cry babies here?

If you see someone walking down the street with a Mickey Mouse tatty on their ankle or something, who's to say that it doesn't have some deep, philosophical meaning to it?

Everyone and their damn mother has a tatty nowadays, so I honestly couldn't give two shits what the meaning is anymore. If someone wants a tatty, who the hell cares? Keep your sour opinions and flaming to yourselves.

Almost all of my friends have tattoo's or some facial piercing, and they are all capable of admitting to doing for purely superficial/aesthetic reasons.

it is like someone getting a breast augmentation and saying "well, my breasts are very spiritual to me, and they express how I feel about the Female body".

While I do have a negative opinion about being an attention whore, in the end there is really nothing wrong with it, but stop the facade of being deep, and spiritual, because 99 out of a 100 times, people wanted the tattoo before they had anything in mind. they just wanted to look cool, so they searched for things which fit their criteria of looking cool, and had enough history or meaning behind it that they could research it and expand on talking about their favorite subject (themselves).

So, basically, just say "I want to get a tattoo to look cool" and dont waste peoples time with "I want to express my spirituality", because frankly I think we have enough christians and muslims doing that every day.

well, would you mind then explaining the difference between tats, piercings and plastic surgery?
besides the tangible differences, how is getting a botox injection to look "more attractive" any different than getting a tattoo to look "cool and spiritual"?

I am tattoed head to toe, some are completely meaningless, while others are profoundly spiritual, my left arm is covered in symbols and the words gnosis, pistes, and sophia in koinea greek, symbolising the qualities I strive for in every day of my life, but on the other hand I've got shroomery tattoed across my nut sack.
Tattoos can be a very spiritual thing, or completely stupid, but though it is true most tattoos are simply for attention, that does not give you the right to be condescending.

BTW, if your looking for a cool cross, yet are not christian, look up the hermetic rose cross, it will take years to understand everything it symbolizes though.

Breast augmentation is a sexually driven change to your appearance. It could never be "spiritual". Getting a tattoo may, on rare ocasion be sexual, but much more likely for attention (as you say) or for personal, even spiritual reasons. Spiritual is not the norm, but I dare say it is some peoples reason.

I just found it funny you took a reasonable argument and kept going at it till you reduced it to something as silly as that. I agreed with you for a while!

While calling breast augmentation "spiritual" may be a stretch, many people get plastic surgery not just to look beautiful, but to look the way they feel on the inside. So while I think your comparison is a bit excessive, it's not entirely unreasonable.

For me, my body is a canvas, and I want to decorate it in a way that is personal to me. Yes, beauty plays a role in it, but beauty can be a spiritual thing when it expresses a beautiful idea or concept. I would not want to live in a house with bare walls, nor would I want to put up posters of bands that I'm not into. I decorate my walls, as I do my body, with things that express what I'm about. Look, there are many tattoos I could get which would look cool but have no meaning to me. I choose to get tattoos which look cool and have a personal symbolic meaning, because that makes them that much cooler to me.
