starting my own tattoo parlor
    #5786059 - 06/24/06 09:47 AM (15 years, 5 months ago)

after some major drama at work, where i told em to shove my management position up their ass ( middle management SUCKS) i have decided to become a tattoo artist.

i come from a family of artists, either fine arts, or musical arts.

both of my uncles are/were college art professors, bro and sister (and myself) both plays music...

in other words i believe i have the genes to be a GREAT tattoo artist.

two of my buddies own their own tattoo parlor ( one in Ga, actually owns 2 parlors ) .

I spoke to my local friend the other day about working in his parlor.

He's a good guy, but oh my i have never met anyone as egotistical as him

he said he dont hire artists, BUT would accept me as an apprentice

LOL @ HIM

he does a LOT of business, but i've seen his work

ive done way better peices with a prison gun ( i plan on buying a professional kit btw)

I kind of took offence at being his " apprentice "

anyway, i am starting my business plan...

im so tired of making OTHER people money, and i think this is my way to break free

wish me luck

Maybe if I get the balls enough to get a tatto and I like you work. I might have to use you.

BTW SC just legalized tattoing, and I think there is only 1 tatto parlor open right now in Myrtle beach. The market is going to be hot soon though.

GL on you buisness.

hmmmm  true

and this would let me get my name out,  while HE pays rent on the building, utilities etc etc...

might have to swallow my pride for awhile until i am financially able to break free from him.

lol hate to tho,  thats just working for someone else, which is what i am trying to get away from..

but it MAY be the best way to start

Being a tattoo artist is much more then actually being good at art.  You have to understand the workings of the guns, shafts, multi tip needles, which needles need to be used at which time and for what reason, and how the sterilization process works as well.  Things like this will very much indeed help you towards become a great tattoo artists with your art skills.  It sounds like a great opportunity for you though and i hope all goes well for ya.

So do you have any idea how to run a business? Do you know licensing, health codes, insurance policies etc?

Do you have money for a business startup? advertising? Or was this just something you decided would be a fun thing to try?

It sounds to me like you may be the egotistical one. I"m pretty sure that n a lot of states you HAVE to be someone's apprentice before you can become a licensed tattoo artist. Just because you come from a family of artists/musicians doesn't mean that you can just open up a tattoo shop and expect people to flock to you with no word of mouth business. I'd take him up on his apprentice offer, get some real life experience, and then see if this is still what you want to do in life. Starting a business costs a lot of money and can be a real headache. I wouldn't just run off and open a tatytoo parlor on whim.

Very cool man I hope it works out,

Two thing's that you also need to do is,

Find a lawyer that knows the industry and get good insurance,

Both are expensive, but with out you could be worse off,
