Oh I see... Sort of reminds me of a cross between the Eye of Horus [Egyptian] and the ancient Yin Yang symbol.

Are you thinking about getting some wrap-around design for it later on in the future? If you are, allow me to offer advice:

If you want a tribal design, try your best to get a design that isn't too strictly uniform, but rather more organic. On top of the fact that blackwork is very hard to execute with precision and successful results, uniform tribals increase the difficulty about 10x - so it doesn't make it any easier for your fellow tatooist.

Examples of an organic-design:

Examples of a uniform design:

The same generally applies for Celtic designs, but not to the same degree. Celtics are much more "gentler" on the tattoist and also have much more potential in terms of design.

Another thing I've learned from tattoists is that colored/textured tattoos are infinitely easier to execute than blackwork. For a long time, I had the assumption that colored/textured tattoos were harder than simple black designs. Nope, it's the exact other way around. So this may be something you want to keep in mind if you want to have a high success rate with your tattoo. Of course, the quality of your tattooist is an obvious factor as well.

It's a good idea to take a look at tattooist's portfolios and see if they've done alot of the kind of tattoo you're looking for - old school, new school, celtics, tribals, picture transfers, etc - and, see if they're actually doing an excellent job in a consistent track record. Alot of this stuff may seem a bit too obvious to us experienced tattoo-collectors.. but too many people new to the tattoo-hobby are learning all of this the hard way.

Take me for instance, I went into the tattoo parlor several years ago and asked for a picture of The Little Mermaid from the Disney video-cover tattooed on my back.

Look what happened:

Yeah, I probably won't get another one for a while. I am strapped for cash. The only reason I got this one was b/c I realized I had a paycheck I didn't know about. I figured, what the hell?

Sweet. as soon as I'm employed I'm getting one. My friend Smilky got this tattoo the other day:

Acid doesn't give you truths; it builds machines that push the envelope of perception. Whatever revelations came to me then have dissolved like skywriting. All I really know is that those few years saddled me with a faith in the redemptive potential of the imagination which, however flat, stale and unprofitable the world seems to me now, I cannot for the life of me shake.
