Lord of The Rings Online

Anyone else in the beta? If so, how do you like it so far?

Im pretty impressed with the game so far though I think lvling will slow down like most games do after release. Graphics are pretty awesome considering I am not using a monster machine.

lol, ive been in it since Alpha 2. At first I thought it was amazing, but now I am just bored with it. It is nice to walk around the world while you are blazed though.

I was invited to the beta last week and I can't get past feeling like this is just WoW with LotR pasted on it.

The one thing I really do like, however, is the system of accomplishments, which are like quests but subtler and reward you in various ways for completing tasks on the side.

I was talking with a guy in game today and we have come to the conclusion (pre-release, things can change) that this takes the best aspects of WoW and other MMO's and expands on them while utilizing new and improved ideas.

is the game like the movie? i mean, Lord of the Rings has a plot and all...it MUST follow it somewhat right?

To be honest I havent read the Lore stuff about the game. But, if what I understand is correct it's after the ring is destroyed. The game is called Lord of the Rings: Shadows of Angmar. And it has a lot to do with that one black rider from the movies.

The races you can be are human, elf, dwarf and hobbit

I don't think I could get into another MMO. Wasted far too much time on FFXI and WoW.

Does it have open PvP? If not I'm not interested. Online games have went downhill since the UO days. I don't get any sense of accomplishment from beign able to defeat some huge monster with my guild or having a high rank or some other bullshit. The only reason I play online games is to get better than everyone else and whoop their ass and steal all their gear, which was what made UO so great.

While I agree they've gone downhill since UO (I still play freeshards :p), I've enjoyed quite a few others.. maybe I'll try out this LOTR one.

When's it come out?

I can't stand how MMO's are automatically a level grinding game. Waste of time imo

I saw the trailer and it just seems like a clone of every other game.

amen brother. The greatest was killing someone and discovering that they were carrying their house key and rune to their hosue location. oh the madness that UO was....

LotRO PvP and WAR [Re: AaronEvil]
    #6602545 -

PvP is utter crap in LotRO. You can't fight other players outside one single place, which is accessible by player characters only at levels near 50 (50 being the cap) and monster players (you can play as a monster character when 10+ level on your character and talking to the monster play guy in Bree) are dull. Well, at least that's my opinion. PvE is nice enough otherwise.

If you're looking for PvP, you might want to read about Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. It doesn't have an UO-like "attack anyone anywhere and anytime" -system, but the whole game is centered around PvP with no "Lalala, what a beautiful day! I think I'll sit here singing and adoring these butterflies. After this wonderful start, I could try my luck at knitting some pink socks or baking some fresh bread to give away to the city orphans." -crap. Everything you do there fuels the war effort. Order versus Destruction. Empire, Dwarfs and High Elfs versus Chaos, Greenskins and Dark Elfs. Mythic describes the stuff as RvR. Maybe Paul Barnett could give a better description http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWvAznIRVLA (he has to be the best PR guy around).

You like MMOs? Check WAR out and start hyping it. www.warhammeronline.com (www.warhammeralliance.com is a good community to chat in)

Im getting this game as well and signed up for the beta about a year and a half ago. Just waiting for my key so I can play. I love Mythic and was a huge DAoC fan. Still play it today. But LOTR will probably do better because it has an aspect people will enjoy, the fantasy world of probably the top book series ever. That's how they will make money. But my girlfriend and I plan to play both Warhammer and LOTR.

Me too. I was an old school UO pvper who has not been satisfied by an MMO for I don't know...8 years now?

Darkfall is our only hope.
