I've been around since 2002 and collectively have maybe only 3500 posts. The reason I say this is, I don't think it should go on post count alone.

But I agree. 2000 posts and 1 year should be what it takes to get into the gathering forum. I find WAY to many people there that make me paranoid.

I'm sure it has. Probably belongs more in the security forum though.

There is a lot at stake allowing new community members, who are complete strangers, into the gathering forum. It makes me really nervous.

Id say this is reasonable except in a case like mine where I have been here for nearly 3 years and I dont even have 1000 posts. I read the forums non stop but I only give input where necessary. I dont think anyone should HAVE to try to come up with that many posts to see that forum. Granted I have never read that particular section nor would it bother me if I couldnt, but it seems like raising it to 5000 posts would make spam go through the roof. Just my opinion.

Good points. Post counts are not a good way to judge members. I have been here 7 1/2 years and still ain't cracked 5K. And I've seen others hit that mark in a few months. Requiring a certain number of posts for anything just promotes spamming. Time spent as an active member of the boards is a better way, but still not a complete winner. A person can create an account (and dump a shitload of crappy posts if necessary) and then wait until they are eligible without ever contributing or even participating here in any way.

The only really good system I ever thought of was some kind of invite system (think "oink" invites). But that would require some unnecessary work for the mods and still doesn't address all the issues of some deserving members being overlooked. So for now I say "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" Things seem to be working OK so let it be.

i think the gathering rights should be bumped up as a noob myself.i would not expect anyone on here to trust me yet with my amount of posts and member time.this guy is out there.maybe after i have 2 years time and 2000 + posts with the years on here being the biggest factor.then let me into the gathering for instance.i think if you can't hang here for years and meet good people than your not worthy.my opinion.i prefer to not meet cops here like most of the shroomerites, or any where for that matter

its been brought up to have the post requirements decrease or maybe even go away once you have been registered for soo long.

for example. 1 year, 1000 posts.. 2 years 750 posts.. 3 years 500 posts.. something along that line... i think that was madtown's idea... or there has also been talk of making it 1 year and no post requirements.
