How much light after inoculation
    #657645 - 06/01/02 02:57 PM (21 years, 9 months ago)

I have read everything from total darkness...to it dosn't matter how much light the jars get during incubation just not direct sunlight. What is the best method?

Total darkness is best. Light is what triggers them to pin.

I like total darkeness , till the jars look 100% - then keep them a week in normal light, this will help pinning to form , but not prematurly.

So you can put them inside a box or a draw for several days?

You can have them in total light all the time. Invitro pinning is rare with most strains. My elves have colonized hundreds of jars using light for a heat source and on 24/7. Cake will be fully colonized before any rare instances of invitro pinning, 99 times out of 100.

This I have proven.

I have kept my cakes in a closet that recieved a very faint light about 12 hours a day because i never kept it closed and my cakes pinned before 100% colonization. So from my personal experience, throw a blanket or something over them to keep them in TOTAL darkness, that way you can be sure your cakes wont pin before you want them to.

What strain was it?

Was it PF classic or South American?

Those are the two most prolific invitro pinners.
