I'm looking for a couple good albums/artists to add to my music collection

Type of stuff I'm looking for would be in the area of

Shpongle/Hallucinogen/Andy C (that dark jungle type drum and bass)/Kan'nal

I'm not looking for something like Tiesto...

Mmmm i'm well into my psytrance so i'll suggest a few.

You may want to give 1200 micrograms a try - Raja Ram from Shpongle, they're good...

Vibrasphere are good progressive psytrance, more chilled out...

Vibe Tribe are great, one of my favourite artists. More trancey, snythesized and lively than the previous two and the artists you mentioned.

For Psytrance I highly suggest:
Electrypnose- Brain Stretching or Le Tireur De Ficelles
Spirallianz/ Midi Miliz- Stereopark
Deviant Species-The quest for baljorax or In the hands of the Randomiser
Para Halu- The world of peace (they also just came out with a new cd called Space rock, but I have only heard the first track off of it so far, so i can't say how good it is, but Para Halu are usually great anyways)
Koxbox- U-Turn

A lot of people listen to stuff like 1200 mics and infected mushroom when they first start getting into psytrance, which is fine. I use to listen to stuff like that, but it doesn't take long to see the high cheese factor in groups like those. I mean, 1200 mics constantly uses heavy metal electric guitar in their music. I don't know how much more cheesy you can get.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan to the electric guitar in this type of music. Though I do love the acoustic guitar shpongle uses.

love the acoustic guitar in sphongle?  you need to check out some infected mushroom.

Classical Mushroom and BP Empire both have some of that on there.  (one of the guys in I.M. is a classical guitar player... some of their music is recorded through MIDI guitar pick-ups, basically he plays a guitar through a computer so that synth sounds come out... but there is some "natural" sounding guitar to it too.)  Their first album "The Gathering" is also classic psy... a must have.

I'll also second or third or whatever 1200 mics.  good stuff.

growling mad scientists is another good one.

also anything by simon posford.  (simon posford IS hallucinogen, and sphongle.  same guy.  he has releases under his actual name too, as well as some other names.)

astral projection is good if you're more into the dancey-trancey style of psy.  very high on the cheese scale though. :smile:

i used to be into psy DJ'ing so lots of these are older releases, i haven't kept up as much recently.  www.psyshop.com is where i used to get my vinyl though, they have sound clips of lots of releases, definitely fun to browse around there and listen to samples... then either buy the stuff or "obtain" it otherwise.

of the more recent releases (few of which i've checked into admittingly), nystagymus is one worth checking out too. :thumbup:

the stuff mentioned just above - koxbox, midi milliz, spirillanz... is more or less psychedelic techno.  its a sub genre of sorts.  dirtier and harder sounding... more "repetitive"... the excitement comes from subtitles in the music.  definitely agreed there's far less cheese factor but its not for everyone either.... i personally love it though, good suggestions to broaden your range of psy... its a wide ranging genre for sure.

Infected mushroom (their new stuff), GMS, 1200 Mics and all that is the equivalent to what DJ sammy is to trance. :thumbdown:

Infected Mushroom is awesome. Also, check out Younger Brother. It's another project by Simon Posford (aka half of Shpongle and Hallucinogen). The first cd, A Flock of Bleeps, is AMAZING, and they just finished the second CD today. :smile:

I'd actually rate those guys as amongst the worst five psy artists. Of course, my tastes are probably just different but you should look into truly psychedelic music like the following:
