i adopted a kitten yesterday

he is like 4 months old...was abused. thing is VERY scared of pretty much everything. he wont even stand up when i put him in the litter box. if i put him on the floor he takes off running behind something. however if i put him on like a blanket he just cuddles up with it and goes to sleep. he'll hiss if u try to pick him up after he runs away but if u just put him in ur lap the thing goes right to sleep. i wonder how long it will take to adjust...i feel bad for the little guy

I got a kitten like that. She was about a year. Now I've had her for a while , and she's my little attention whore. :heart: Lots of love and understanding is all it takes.
What's he look like?

Given that the cat is so young, he'll probably bounce back fairly quickly emotionally, and be a great pet.  Just be patient and make him feel safe and loved, and he'll be ok :smile:  Post a picture!

lots of attention..

cats are attention whores.. keep on playing with him.. give him a few toys to bat around the house when you aren't home... he'll be adjusted in no time.

but, i do suggest buying a squirt bottle for discipline... scratching at furniture and stuff like that has to be 'punished' somehow... a few blasts of water has worked well w/ all the cats i've had save for one or two... and i've had a lot of cats over the years...

It will eventual come to the point where you won't even have to squirt them, the sight of the bottle will be enough to tell them they've done wrong.

I never understood why that worked so well though... I know cats hate water, but it's just a little. My last car would literally bolt to the farthest corner of the house if he even saw one of the things.

i wish i had a pic, im here at work now though... he's looks all black, but in a well lit room, you can see he's got a bunch of dark brown fur mixed in. ears are dark brown... eyes are yellowish green. cool looking cat. i guess somebody beat it up and just tossed it on the street. they found it in a really white trashy town a few miles from me

oh and the coolest thing, i bought this self cleaning litterbox..greatest invention ever! it was a tad pricey, but the thing works perfectly. 10 mins after the sensors detect a cat it sifts through the litter and dumps the clump in this diposable container which it then promptly seals. im guessing each disposable container would hold about a week's worth of clumps.

that one is nicer than mine...i got the "as seen on tv" one. i like the enclosure on the linked box, plus it says you can use kitchen trash bags...mine i need special refill containers
