prepasturized hpoo storage.
    #6554837 - 02/11/07 05:16 PM (17 years, 8 days ago)

if someone ordered 100 lbs pf prepasturized 50/50 from tennstud how long would it be good for and how would someone store it properly? Would it be easier to get the dry and pasturize it as needed? plan on using all of it within 6 months(probably less). all experienced advice is always appreciated. thanks guys

Definitely get it dry and hydrate and pasteurize as needed.

Its better to be stored dry, however...i've seen pre-pasteurized Hpoo from Tennstudd last for a year in his sealed bags, opened and spawned to. Worked like the day it was made.

Kept the sacks in a few black trashbags, which were thrown into a cardboard box and taped up most of the time. -However, this might not always be the case for everyone, ive just had 40lb of it do this and opened and used just fine.

The kink in the woodwork is this.
Pasteurization causes the demise of most undesirable spores & molds.
It works exponentially, killing a high percentage of microbes.
Those that remain, under certain conditions can recolonize the mass.

One should utilize a pasteurized substrate ASAP.

Otherwise, order dry substrate, then pasteurize it, as needed.

DRY h/poo is a better buy anyway.
When buying hydrated pasteurized h/poo.
You are paying for significant price for water weight.

In that case, it was sterilized and not pasteurized. That's a fact.

I'm not quite sure how he prepares his Hpoo when he pasteurizes it. But if he's sterilizing it, wouldn't he put that in his advertising?

*shrugs* The bag was opened up and looked as good as any Tenn Stud bags of Hpoo. Colonized very well too.

Pasteurized manure will stink up your whole house if it's not colonized within three to four weeks because the surviving bacteria have few competitors. I speak for nobody but my own experience, and I've pasteurized a few thousand pounds of the stuff. Sterilized will last a long time in a filter patch bag. Cubes grow well on sterilzed horse manure.

My experience is the same.
After awhile, pasteurized h/poo goes downhill fast.
The "stink" RR describes is what happens.

I've worked with a few tons of h/poo over the years.

If it is "sterilized" & the filter-patch is kept dry.
It will last months.

hippiechick orders it in bulk and freezes it. she says it works fine. 400lbs at a time I think is what she said she orders.

buying 100 lbs of dry would make about 300lbs of pasteurized doody.
