cats chasing their tails...
    #6512147 -

two of my cats love to chase their own tail from time to time.. and they get seriously into it..

so much so that one just came tearing into the living room... spinning in circles after his tail but maintaining forward momentum... right onto the couch beside me, where he finally managed to catch the elusive bastard... and apparently bit himself so hard that he hurt himself...

he started yowling at himself, but kept his tail in his mouth...

i couldn't help but laugh as i grabbed him and said, 'idiot, you're biting yourself!'

now he's sitting here looking uber-pissed that he lost to himself.

why do animals do this?

there are 3 cats in this apartment.. they should be able to chase and fight each other 24/7...

just sometimes their own tail distracts them and they take off on the mission to catch it...

it's highly amusing.. but, equallly as confusing to watch.

True!
One of mine is the same.. just gets a crazy look in his eyes and attack the tail.. when he has been at it a while he usually catches it and bites it... Pretty funny...

They probably can't feel that their tale is a part of them until they bite it or it touches something

My dog ALWAYS chases his tail. He gets it sometimes and ends up yelping because he bites it too hard. Its definately funny, but also interesting.

My dog does it too, and he's 65 lbs of bursting energy, so he shakes the whole damn apartment when he really goes at it.  Sometimes when he bites his tail too hard he whimpers and runs over to me like I'm supposed to protect him from himself or something

ok..  so I come home from work tonight and I'm petting the same cat... I pulled my hand along his tail and he's got something dry and hard on the end of his tail..

i'm like, "great.. the cat's got shit on his tail!" and look down at his tail...

not shit, thankfully...

it was blood... the bastard bit himself so hard, he bled!

my gf said he was being crazy all day chasing himself around the apartment and fighting his tail....

i guess he won??

one of my cats actually ate his tail to the point where he had to have 2 vertebre removed (although he is an office cat, and its rumored that the ol' accountant might have accidentally shut his tail into the safe door........)

regardless after the surgery, he wouldnt stop eating at the stitches... had to get one of those collar thingies.

cats are crazy, i love em

haha, yeah my cat does that sometimes, the best thing to do is:

1)Get a flashlight
2)Turn off the lights, get your cat in the room
3)Turn on Flashlight, see if you cat chases the light when you point it at the ground (my cat tries to tear that damn light appart
4)Make the cat run in circles chasing the light, its quite funny and my cat loves it.
