low potency after drying

somewhere, someone ate some fresh/halfway air dried shrooms.... they got off like they should have.... then they ate the same shrooms from the first trip... but they had been put in a dehydrator to finish drying them.... this second dosing was four days after the initial dosing.... the second dose 6 grams dry was consumed and mild effects were all that was felt.... another person ate 4 grams and also reported mild effects .... the dehydrator was at 155.... was that the problem? i see that others use the same setting and dont have probs..... thanks ahead of time for any helpfull info

well, i dunno about the temps but for me and people i know eating shrooms sooner then 10 days after the last time produces milder trips

try not to eat 6-8 hours before eating the mushrooms. also, cut them up really good, put into a small cup, pour in some oj, and drink.

i think this might be in the wrong section.

yeah i thought about that about that too...... i had read that you had to have at least 48 hours inbetween ..... but that sounds like a possibility.... anyone else have any info? any experiences of potency loss after drying at max temp in a nesco?

ummm no ... this is a cultivation question about drying first and foremost...... thanks for your two cents though

well, if you dried them out fast enough and they weren't potent, it could have just been the batch. i've notice that some batches just aren't very potent.

no..... the first trip was the same batch/flush .... the first experience was when they were wet/half dry in front of a fan for at least 24 hours.... the second experience they were the same batch but the had been finished off in the dehydrator at temps up to 155

i wouldn't use any heat when drying them. that may have been the problem. next time, fan dry 24-48 hours, and then place in a desiccant chamber for a few days.

well others say the heat doesnt effect it... just trying to get some actual info from personal experiences.... and some info on the science behind it

heat is not good for psilocybin mushrooms. it leads to a loss of potency due to the breakdown of the psilocin nd psilocybin in your mushrooms which get you feeling high. try drying with a fan for 24 hours and then using a desiccant chamber for another 24-48 hours. i use this method and notice no difference in potency from fresh to cracker dry.

Don't exceed 115 when you're drying your mushrooms. I personally dry mine on the lowest setting, 95. Sometimes I crank it to 105.

If the mushrooms came from a multi-spore inoculation, the potency can vary from casing to casing, from flush to flush, and even from mushroom to mushroom.

With MS inoculation, you're pretty much rolling the dice as far as potency goes. It's hit or miss. I've picked fruits from casings and dried them all together. Some friends went into outer space, some went to bed early.

Try a good cloning tek. Your yield will be higher, and your potency will be much more consistent.

I always dry mine with my Nesco dehydrator set on 95 deg. with very little, if any, loss of potency.

why even dry using heat? why not just fan dry them, make a cheap desiccant chamber, and toss into it?

Because sometimes you have A LOT of shrooms and you need to dry them FAST.

Drying them at 95-105 is going to have no or negligible loss in potency.

Any idea how long it would take to dry out 10 lbs. of fresh mushrooms in a desiccant chamber? (That's just the top drawer :wink:)

Idunno why more people don't just strap furnace filters to box fans?
The kind that look like this: /\/\/\/\/\ Not the fiber kind.
I've seen it suggested by some old hands. And if ya want a little heat to it you can always just place the fan a few feet in front of a space heater.

Just desiccant without air drying first?
Like three days.
Although, you didn't say how much desiccant you used.

i use a shoe box, crack the lid and leave it 18 in from a space heater. itll dry an ounce in a day and 1\2
