Sharpening a knife, questions
    #6493087 -

I bought a Global 8" Chef's Knife for a decent price ($77). Best knife ever.

Anyway, I keep it in a sheath on my kitchen counter. So while I was at work, my drunk dumbass roommate apparently gets a hold of this knife and takes a swat at the edge of a table. I find out about this when I get home to make some dinner. There's two small (3mm in size) dents on the blade of the knife. It doesn't look chipped, just dented. What sucks is that they are located right in the middle of the blade, which I can't deal with.

Is it possible to straighten this out? My sharpening skills are very limited so I don't want to mess this knife up, although it's already fucked up.

I would need to see a pic, but if it's really bad then see if global can replace it (probably not), if not you will have to put a new edge on it with a rough grit stone then hone it on a ceramic whetstone.

Heres a good link

Q. What help will you provide if the knife is damaged (snaps, rusts or nicks)?

Our knives are not guaranteed against damage caused by inappropriate use or negligence. [Examples of inappropriate use or negligence of GLOBAL knives]
1. Dropping the knife on the floor
2. Attempting to cut frozen foodstuffs or extremely hard articles with the knife
(twisting the knife from side to side)
3. Using a dishwasher/drier to clean or dry the knife
4. Storing the knife without cleaning and drying it
If damage occurs in other cases than these kinds of examples, we will firstly check the damage and the way of usage, so please enquire with YOSHIKIN's Tokyo Sales Office
Have you asked your roommate to pay for it?

I would "dent" your roomie.

Manufacturer will not replace it, for free.
They might refurbish it, for a fee.
Or, you can take it to a local quality cutlery place.
And, for a fee, they will refurbish it.

You can tell the quality & caliber of people.
By the knives they use & how they care for them.

Again, DENT.... that roomie.
Or, piss in his PC drive slot.

if its a dent and not a nik it should come out fine, you can put an egde on a knife so long as it doesnt bend.

I have an affinity for fine cutlery, sabers & such.
The practical kind, not exotic museum pieces.

To swing an authentic 1850 to 1920, British, German, American or Japanese Calvary type saber in ones hand. Brings home the true realization of what courage it must have taken to face off, with someone wielding such a weapon, who was intent on killing you with it.

I have two that are family heirlooms (WW1 & 2), as well as several others that I have collected over the years. Any of which would sever a mans arm, or head, with ease.
