i have a myspace page dedicated to Dr. Timothy Leary. :shrug:

the only reason i created it was to stay in contact with a good friend of mine who moved to california.

i log on like once every other week.

but i totally understand where you're coming from.

some people are fucking obsessed about their egos on myspace.

i say let 'em be, who cares, myspace threads on the shroomery won't last long anyway. :crazy:

actually, i appreciate myspace as funny as that sounds.

the most wonderful and odd thing happened via myspace...

a death metal band asked me to be their friend (which i denied), i suppose because i live in the same country as them. although i'm not a fan of death metal, i still decided to check out the page...to my surprise i recognized the names of one of the band members.

i decided to message the band asking that one particular band member if he by any chance had a half brother whom he had never met...which would be my husband. i received a reply and funny enough, he recognized my husband's name and wanted to meet us.

this was back in july, ever since then we regularly visit my husband's half brother and both of them are close now.

so because of this, i don't have a problem being a myspace member :smile:

I do have some respect for the bands and small businesses taking advantage of the free publicity. They are not about online drama and social status. They are about the money. Whats wrong with that?

AlteredAgain: That is mouch more acceptable. Making a mypsace for yourself so you can get social status is rediculus. Making a dedication to the late greats, that is more what i would like to see.

I hate myspace, it's such an ego hole (but that's just my opinion and i'm entitled to it). I can understand it's purpose from the perspective of bands and artists trying to get their work seen and heard (I don't have a myspace). But you'll know what I mean when I talk of the dreaded "myspace pic"...

i agree that's a reasonable use of myspace. it's not always easy to keep long distance connections intact. the web can facilitate that.

I can see how it would help upcomming bands. With all the teeny boppers and highschoolers out there on MySpace, it seems to be the main source for planning their restricted weekends.

Maybe we should make a new way to contact our long distance friends with out all the cyber drama bullshit.

My main point was. MySpace and the Shroomery should be seperated. If you want to talk to a friend long distance that is fine. Keep it out of the Shroomery, we are here for a much different reason.

i understand

i dislike some of the things i see...from people just adding as many people to their friends list so they seem popular..and actually, i hate that put your top 8 or whatever amount of friends that you have at the beginning of your list.

but yeah, the story i told is pretty rare. otherwise the other parts of the site is pretty shite :smile:

i do keep in contact iwth my high school friends through there..and it's actually pretty entertaining surfing through other high school classmate pages just to see how obnoxiously ugly their myspace pages look like and finding out gossip i.e. which classmate became a ho, which one got knocked up multiple times, etc :grin:

I've pretty much grown out of myspace.

I check it every now and then, as for the most part its the easiest way to stay in contact with my old school friends who went in a complete different way from me (I Study math, chemistry + physics and am involved in drugs, they study bullshit media / film studies / psychology etc subjects :grin: not to mention I go to a difference college more specialized in sciences..)

I don't like the whole culture, but its a decent enough way to keep in touch with my old friends...

The site is owned by Fox now, so you can bet your ass it is all about the money now. :smirk:

MySpace = Pretend to be somebody that you think everyone else will like you more for, add as many friends as you can but you won't even talk to them through myspace because you have AIM and/or a phone. You play a song that you thing sounds cool or represents you, which everyone pauses as soon as your page loads anyway.
