Re: C-WEBB coming to DEEETROIT [Re: Banez]

Just got done watching the Pistons game against the Jazz and Webber started like I assumed. He looked good offensively. He was passing the ball with precision and was making smart plays. Defensively, i wasnt to impressed though. Besides a nice block in the post, Webber looked kinda rusty rebounding and covering his man. As for the game, the Pistons cannot beat the fucking Jazz they've lost something like 4 straight games against them. Now that i think about it, I forgot too mention that Mohammed didnt play one minute. That almost proves that hes getting traded.

I think C Webb would have fit much better with the Nets.

It was a bad deal for him and the Pistons.

I dont know how you guys can say it was a bad deal for him and the Pistons. Really it was a great deal for both teams just based on the fact that the Pistons are basically adding him for free. The Pistons signed him to the veterans league minimum which means he gets a 1 year deal for 1.25 million, while the 76ers continue to pay the salary they owe him still. So not only does Webber get to come home to where hes lived almost his whole life and play, but hes still being payed something like 12 million dollars from the sixers for this season and another 10 the next. If theres any team that got the raw end of this deal it was the Sixers. This is obvious since Webber and Iverson never became that force that Philly thought would end up making that team NBA Finals contenders when they traded for Webber. Though anybody that consistently payed any attention to the NBA at that time would've been able to tell the sixers that that tandem in Philly wouldnt work. Now if Webber would have been in his prime during the time that trade went down, maybe there would have been a different outcome to that deal. Anyways, the Sixers are basically paying a good player to play for Detroit.

yeah, why the fuck would webber go to the nets... he wants to be on a contender.. and the nets are absolute garbage and in the worst division in basketball.. the East Central.. and they arent even in first, Toronto is better than them.

i think it was both a good move for webber and detriot.. and maybe the best chance for webber to win a championship without going back out west to play.

I heard the nets might try to trade Jason Kidd before the deadline. Therefore it sounds to me like they might me be thinking about unloading some players to try and rebuild there franchise or maybe there just trying to shake things up a bit. Right now, the Nets are not really in contention for anything, so why would Webber have wanted to go there?

I happen to like Smush Parker I think hes a pretty good basketball player and as for Kidd, his stats show hes getting worse and is on the decline. Though Kidd is still a good player right now and i think he would be a good addition for the Lakers. Hes a smart veteran, who controls the court well and just really knows how to run a game. He would fit in well with all those youngins in LA. Im sure he could teach the guards a thing or too. A trade would really depend on what the Nets expect in return for Jason Kidd.

I love Chris Webber but he is not the answer Detroit is seeking. They are looking for another Ben Wallace but at this stage of his career Webber is no Ben Wallace. His legs are gone and he cannot defend. Sure he can give you some offense on one end of the court only to give it right back on the other end. Net gain = zero.

So Detroit gained essentially a net nothing as a team and although the contract is cheap (this year) the value is commensurate. And next year will evidently cost them $10 mill for a year older Chris Webber.

The Nets are an improved team this year- they started out 11-18 but have won 7 of their last 10. They could have used a post presence which Webber could have given them. There only true post player, Nenad Krstic, had a season-ending injury. Would it have made the difference? Doubtful. But it would have improved their team and their chances. I don't think the same can be said of the Pistons.

Was it a great deal for Webber? Sure. If his goal is to collect a paycheck and come along for the ride.

hmm considering that webber allowed the 76er's to buy him out shows that hes not in it for the money.. he had 2 years left on his contract and as you know, the last 2 years are the ones where you get paid the most.

he didnt get a high paying contract from detriot.. he simply wants to contribute and maybe win a championship before he retires.

I never said he was in it for the money. Just that he will be getting paid based more upon reputation than recent performance. What have you done for me lately?

Ten millions dollars next year. For someone with his eroded skills I consider that to be very high paying. In his heyday he was a 20 pt/10 rebound per game guy. This year he is averaging only 10 pts a game, his fg% has dropped, his ft% has dropped. You can get those kind of numbers from almost anybody.

Webber is a nice guy though from one of my favorite teams (Sac Kings) so I wish him all the best. Time catches up with everyone. And I don't blame him for taking the money. I'd cash that check too.

Zorbman, Detroit is not looking for another Ben Wallace. Ben Wallace is an extremely gifted Defensive player and Joe Dumars knows that finding another Ben is just not gonna happenin again at least for a while or maybe never again in his career as a GM. When the Pistons signed Nazr Mohammed they knew that he was not going to even get close to the numbers that Ben put up defensively. On the positive side they figured that mohammed would at least increase there offensive production at the center position. This never really came to fruition which is why Mohammed know longer starts.

As for Webber he is still only 31 years old so he really should have some quality years left in him, even with his banged up knees. Friday night Webber scored 16 points and had 7 rebounds with 4 assists in there win vs. the timberwolves. After watching the game, I see know reason why Webber couldnt keep producing at that same pace for the rest of the season. And if he does how could anyone say that the Pistons move to sign him wasnt a success?
