Hey all, so i finally got my syringes in w00t w00t . anyways i bought 3 syringes just in case i mess up the first and second one "hopefully i wont mess up the 3rd :P" so i been reading , and watching documentary's about how to do it "the entire process from start to finish" pretty much every day for about 2 weeks now. So i finally get my syringes, i clean the bathroom spray Lysol EVERYWHERE so I'm in the bathroom about to knock my jars up , everything goes good on the first one, second one ran into a problem with the holes being too small... "i put 4 holes per jar" only about 2 of the holes i was able to knock up on that one.

So , here comes the problems... First the Syringe got stuck! after about the 3rd one it got stuck and wouldn't come out... so i squeeze the hell out of it and it shot all over the walls :frown: not too much came out but enough for me not to like it.so i figure ill put the lighter under the needle again to sterilize after the stuck issue, i could feel it bubbling inside the syringe... i dotn know if that is normal or not... so i stopped doing it after a couple of seconds and continued, one of the jars had rust on one of the holes... is this a problem? would rust contam my jar? i thought about it for a second and i knocked that jar up too. over all it was a really nerve wrecking experience for my first time. I was really worried about contams getting into my jars even though there was none there already. Those of who read my posts know i premade my jars like 4 days before they got here.... i kept them in the same plastic case i had them in before  , but put black trash-bags over it to keep in the heat alittle. I couldn't find a good solid spot to put my box up high for it to be the hottest, so i put it in my room on top of a Heating vent where the heat comes out... is this good enough for heating? or will the air blowing in be too much? mind you i have trash bags over the case so its air tight atm. Please any comments are welcome I'm just so nervous... i had to ditch 3 jars because the holes where too small :frown: ... thanks for the read i know its long :P

Next tim just use a hammer and nail and make the holes bigger. As long as the verm layer is there youll be cool. Yes the first time is almost like having sex but not. YOU dont want to get the ick but however you do want to get her pregant. LOL. I only use 2 holes per jar. Make a glove box its easier than the bathroom besides the bathroom and kitchen are the most contaminated rooms in the house. :mushroom2:

Sounds like your holes are just too small for the syringe needle.

Rust won't contam, you're worried about mold spores and bacteria from the lid and the air. Also, momentarily heating the needle in a flame won't harm the spores in the syringe, but it will kill any that are in the needle.

Next time make the holes big enough and cover with tape. Swab the lid holes with an alcohol swab/cotton ball before injecting, then retape after injecting.

No, if you sterilized the jars, the rust would be sterile too. I've never had a problem with rusty lids.

I've done that, as long as they are kept in a relatively clean and still air area they should be good.

I've never measured it, but I tend to think that may get pretty hot and inconsistant. When in doubt, room temp works. The air blowing in would be a contam risk, but like you said they are covered. You still want some air smace between your jars and the covering, as in not tightly wrapped in a plastic bag, which would obviously defeat the purpose of jar vent holes. As long as they are not actually on the heat vent I would say. Like off to the side but under a dark heavy blanket.

thanks for the replys.. why did my syringe get stuck though? i should say more like cloged or something? i shook the syringe pretty good every time i got finished injecting so what could have caused this ? maybe some vermiculite got in it or something?

the blanket i idea is very good ... I'm going to put this like 30lbs fur blanket my dad got when he was in the military in Korea it gets very warm would be perfect temp, besides i live in the south so it don't really get that cold here, so i think i should be fine :P

the plunger got stuck. Could be verm, but I've only had that happen when I'm trying to suck something up out of a jar. Maybe rubber thing was twisted or pinched inside shaft. Strange. Just have to be carefull I guess.

yeah and it wouldnt get unstuck for ntohing, i had to put all my muscle into pushing it down to come out , thats when i sprayed the wall lol , and im not small dude im 230 and not fat so i pressed it pretty damn hard lol

Pics would be helpful.

Only time I've had that happen was with a live culture syringe, not a spore syringe. The mycelia had grown together enough to clog the needle. The way to fix that is, in a glove box, sterilize a slender needle that fits inside the syringe needle and use it to clear the needle.
