Salvia feeding
    #6445050 -

Ok, I've spent a good portion of the morning searching through old posts and other websites about fertilizer/feed for salvia. All I'm finding are conflicting reports.

I've seen some people give specific recommendations (2-1-1), as well as those who say use generic indoor plant feed, as well as those who have said not to use generic indoor plant feed.

I have had one of my cuttings for about 6 months now and have not fed her, and I'm sure that would be a good thing. I do not have the capability to test the soil pH, but I've read that is not terribly important. My other plant is fairly large (18") and I am unsure of how she was fed before I obtained her (she will soon be made into 8-12 cuttings).

I know my rH is somewhat low, but I'm hoping to solve that problem after I move by building a chamber and hopefully getting some flouros for them.

So, what would be the best feed for them? If pics would help, I can gladly provide them.

Generic plant feed 30-10-10 or 15-30-15 can work well if you use ~ 1/10 of their suggestion, anything more will be the death of your plants.

Lately I've been using 1 - 1.5 - 1.3 organic compost with good results, without attracting bugs.

1TBS urine to the gallon of water is a good standby as well. Stay away from blood meal, bone meal or fish emulsion.

I remember you telling me this, but do you mean human urine, or what?

and how much of the gallon would I feed to the plant, or how would I go about measuring that, since our urine contents may differ?

However much you would normally water, and make a fresh gallon each time.

Bummer...just bought some. Is there a reason for this beside the fact that it can get funky?

It smells and draws bugs, outside it attracts cats, maybe other animals.  If you do try it inside have some orange peels ready, nothing kills gnats as well

lol!  There's a cat in my house and a friend recommended the fish emulsion.  I called him up and said "A-hole!  You do know there's a cat in my house, right?!" after the cat's reaction when I was mixing it up.  The thing went crazy!

I mixed it at a greatly reduced ratio and it's in the closet with my plants and that stays closed 24/7 and the cats afraid of me most of the time unless it's hungry so it doesn't come around much.

Thanks for the tip on the gnats.  Cats hate oranges too!!  I put the peels in my pots outside in the summer to keep them from using them as litter boxes.....and to keep the one in the house from begging!

I might try that if I move my plants outdoors over the summer.
