btw, why do you need that translation?

i substituted the word integrity for honor...

there is no actual latin word for integrity.. integrity is a latin word derived from latin.

I wouldn't use scio anyway, as I think the literal translation doesn't look very authentic. Just use 'est' instead, or perhaps 'dilato' (expand)

and if you use dilato, the verb would be dilatet.

but i wouldnt do that, scio should be your verb

just wonder, not trying to be critical, but what do you mean "doesnt look authentic"

keep in mind that the verb is refering to "no limits".. which is the acusative.

Because a literal translation would make little sense in Latin, it seems. 'Veneratio' (integrity, dignity) is not an entity that is capable of knowing, therefore, in Latin, the literal translation would make little sense.

So I'd rephrase to something like 'My dignity is without boundary' or 'My dignity stretches without boundary', which would rid you of the problem indicated above. So you'd end up with this, for example: "Sine fines meum veneratio est" or "Sine fines dilatet meum veneratio".

Actually, if you insist on translating as literally as possible, I'd suggest using 'nescio'/'nescere' (third person active declination 'nesciat') and removing 'nullum' (because you'd other wise end up with a dubble denial).
Btw, if you want to stick to 'scio', the correct declination would be 'sciat'.

Just judging by the feel of the Latin sentence, for what it's worth. I went to the local equivalent of grammer school, so I studied Latin for six years. It's a few years ago, however. The one thing I do remember very well indeed is that translating literally just doesn't make for very good prose. Try to reap the benefits of the language you use.

Yes, but what does that have to do with anything? The declination of the verb depends on the subject of the sentence, which is 'veneratio'. You're right that 'no limits' should be accusative and iirc, 'veneratio' is the correct declination, but declinations just haven't been my forte and heavy drug use during these past years haven't really improved that situation :wink:

hmm yeah.. i was trying to make it as literal as possible, since he isnt really going for proper usage.. to me he needed as close to literal as possible

i wonder if he found what he was looking for.. i havent taken latin in almost 2 years, im proud of myself for retaining some of that shit.

it was "my integrity knows no limits"

but i think he got it.. the only part we were really stuck on was the verb... and we somewhat got it.. althou i think the verb should be scio.

yeah scio would probably work given it's put in the right context, or you could go for est which i would personally prefer.

english to latin translations are not always the easiest.

ya, though the dative singular is puellae; puellam is accusative.

in this language one cannot help being a grammar nazi, i had a roman-catholic monk teach me latin and i must say he played his role quite well.

i'd never go back. :lol:
